OrphanAid Kenya An IYMU Report, March 2016O n Sunday, 20th March, 2016, OrphanAid Kenya in collabo- ration with the Jaffery Islamic Centre and the Ithna AsheriYoung Men’s Union, conducted a Free Medical Camp for thevarious Orphanages in and around Mombasa.There was extensive profiling of the visiting orphans and everyone of them was given a full basic medical checkup, which in-cluded blood pressure monitoring, temperature, body weight,and even an eyesight testing. Children from different schools arriving earlyAnd the work begins... Medical professionals from various specialties were on hand to assist and provide expert care to the orphansWith more than 400 children and 70 plus doctors on theground, it was a day full of interaction and humility. While oth-er patients were being attended to, children of the KSIJ commu-nity left no stone unturned to make the time worth for the kidsin-waiting. Intra Faith Milad un Nabi An IYMU Report, January 2016O n Thursday, 14th January 2016, the Ithna-Asheri Young Men’s Union organized an Intra-FaithEid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (saww) program at the Jaffery Islamic Centre.The purpose of this program was to foster unity among allMuslims, irrespective of sectarian inclinations.The program was moderated by Mulla Sajjad Datoo. Qasidaswere recited by various groups including the Husayni Madras-ah boys, Anjuman-e-Sakina group, and Madrasah Imam ZainulAabideen group.Thought provoking lectures were delivered by Sheikh MohdharKhitamy and Sheikh Nuru Mohammed on the great personalityof the Holy Prophet (saww) and the critical importance ofmaintaining unity and moving forward together as One Um-mah.At the end of the program, dinner was served, further enhanc-ing social interaction and integration. 4

SEMINARS & WORKSHOPSLeadership & Governance Seminar An IYMU Report, November 2015A project by the Muharram Affairs Committee, under the banner of Ithna-Asheri Young Men’s Union, this “targetedaudience seminar” was held at Mulla Asgher Memorial Hall inthe November of 2015.The core objective was to expose University students acrossMombasa to the message of Imam Hussein (as): “Leadershipwhile being on the righteous path” Sheikh Nuru Mohammed, interacting with the participants The final part of the program featured a Q & A session with Sheikh Nuru and with Mvita MP Abdul-Swamad Shariff Nassir. The students were thereafter presented with certificates and lunch was served.Participants taking active part in the seminarThe keynote speaker for this interactive seminar was SheikhNuru Mohammed, the knowledge, the charisma, the wit tointeract and the energy to engage people.The first session on Leadership began with a speech on the ide- A captivated audience!al qualities of a leader, followed by an activity whereby partici-pants watched a video showing clips on 10 powerful leaderswho in one way or another had a great effect on the world.Each group was then given a biography of one of these leadersand was asked to discuss and present 3 ideal qualities theirleader had that enabled them to have such a powerful impacton the world.In the second session, participants were divided into 6 groups(according to their interest Health, Education, National Security,Environment, Economic Empowerment and Youth Develop-ment. Each group had the task to choose a leader, discuss upona prominent problem related to their field and to present a so-lution together with practical ways of implementing it.This activity was followed by a speech on Governance from anIslamic perspective. 5

Interactive Session with Sheikh Mansour Leghaei An IYMU Report, July 2015Mombasa Jamaat was blessed to have Sheikh Mansour Leghaie, an eminent scholar from Iran, who delivered aseries of spiritual lectures during the latter half of the HolyMonth.The IYMU organized an interactive session with him for youngadults between the ages of 25-50 on the 6th of July 2015 at theImambargah at JIC. Sheikh Mansour Leghaie addressed various issues in connection to marital relations and upbringing of children according to Is- lamic teachings, morals and ethics. VOLUNTEERINGThe Volunteers of the IYMU and the IYMU Main Body have kept themselves occupied with various Intra-Communal activities that bring them closer to the communities outside ours. Together with that, Inter-Communal events are also there to strengthen the bonds from within. The three-fold aim of this tripwas to sensitize our community youth on how fortunate they,to let our youth partake from Community Service and to pro-vide the children at MCH a sense of belonging to the out-side communities. Our volunteers were introduced by MajorFrancis, caretaker of the 32 orphan children who were be-tween the ages of as young as 3 years to 14 years of age.After the introductions, the volunteer team was split intogroups of 4-5 volunteers, with the help of cleaning materialsprovided, assisted in cleaning the shelter. We had 2 groups whocleaned 4 bed rooms, one group cleaning the corridors, and onegroup who cleaned their balconies. Later on all groups met atthe yard, and started to clean up their yard and play ground.At about 12 Noon, the volunteers headed to the footballground where four teams were made, playing with the Children– it was a really tough football match against them.The volunteers thank the IYMU team, for those who came andhelped, and for those who organized this eye-opener trip. 7

MUHARRAM 1437Muharram ActivitiesAn IYMU/MAC Report, Muharram 1437Different from all years, the Ashura Procession started off at 10:15am from the Jaffery Islamic Centre, moved alongNyerere Avenue, onto Digo Road and from Haile Selassie Road,ended at the KSI Cemetry.Public Sabeel mah/Digo Road Roundabout. Sabeel was also distributed inside Habib Bank Ltd, Habib AG, KWFT Bank, Barclays PLC, Nation An IYMU Report Media Group, Kenya Airways, CfC Stanbic Bank and Huduma Centre.The Public Sabeel Team comprised of 9 members. The team started off with the Sabeel distribution at JIPS. Fromthere, they moved on for a simultaneous distribution alongNkrumah Road.On Nkrumah Road, a distribution point was set outside JaffsOptics. Sabeel was distributed along the roads upto the Nkru- 11
