But the allureof the sky has become one of the fast-growingsports of today, and many young men and women havemade their dreams of becoming sport pilots.The basic qualifications of an aspiring sportpilot include these aspects: your willingness andpatience to learn, your physical and mentalcondition, and the completion of training and

other requirements.The following are the necessary requirements youneed to fulfill to succeed as a sport pilot:1. You should be at least 17 years old, holdinga valid driver license, proficient in English andphysically capable and in good health.2. If you have certain conditions or ailments, youshould first consult with a physician if you canenroll as a sport pilot trainee. You also need tobe clean of substance or alcohol abuse.3. If you are in a good condition and you areprepared to take the trainings and the challengesahead, it is also best to discuss with your flightschool of choice about insurance coverage. It ispractical to apply for an EAA (ExperimentalAircraft Association) Liability Plan to protectyourself as an aircraft leaseholder.

4. You will also need to apply for an officialstudent sport pilot certification from the FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) while you arestill a student. You will need the certificationonce you fly solo. If you are an existing EAAmember, you can get the FAA certificate for freeby attending EAA-sponsored events.5. If you are still in the preparatory stage, youmay opt to take a preparatory courses from aland-based flight school. This is an option thatwill give you an edge prior to your formal flightcourse.6. A mandatory written exam is part of the flighttraining. You need to pass to this exam to receiveyour coveted sport pilot certificate. You maytake the exam in advance or during your training.7. Actual flight training with an instructor isalso part of the course. You will be accompaniedby a certified flight instructor every time you

fly an aircraft.8. Actual solo flight training. Once you havecompleted the requisites of your entire courseand your flight instructor has given you thethumbs up, you can fly solo for the first time.9. You need to pass the oral and written exams totest if you are eligible and ready to takeresponsibilities as a sport pilot. If you pass,you will obtain your sport pilot certificate.
