2021 Annual Report Platte County Senior Fund
PCSF Mission Statement To enhance the senior’s quality of life and independence. PCSF recognizes there is no place like Home. I Historyn 1982, a group representative of the county demographics initiated a campaign for enabling legislation to find a consistent funding source to provide services for the senior citizens of Platte County; services designed to keep the older resident in his or her own home as long as possible. At that time limited funding for senior citizen programs was provided by the county and through Mid-America Regional Council, Department of Aging. MARC funding is governed by the Old- er Americans Act of 1965 and is appropriated by Congress. In 1989, the Missouri Legislature finally passed enabling legislation allowing counties and the City of St. Louis to put a senior citizen tax levy on their ballots. The Platte County group then spent three years researching the needs of our senior citizens before putting the question of a five-cent levy before the voters in November 1992. The levy passed with 60 percent voting in favor. The seven member board of directors was appointed in February 1993, the levy was assessed in October 1993 and ser- vices began in May of 1994.

New Partnerships in 2021 Mid America Regional Council (MARC) – Communities for All Ages KC Communities for All Ages and the First Suburbs Coalition offer the Community for All Ages Recognition Program as an incentive for your city to become a Community for All Ages. A community can earn one of three levels of recogni- tion representing the extent of its work in becoming a Community for All Ages: Bronze (Awareness), Silver (Assessment) or Gold (Implementation). Recognition for each level requires a community to complete a set of tasks. The tasks don’t necessarily require a great financial commitment, but do require time and effort from elected officials and staff, as well as citizen engagement. In most cases, the tasks can be included in already-existing processes and programs. Parkville, MO – Bronze Level Platte County Senior Fund will provide 50% match to each participating city. Mid America Regional Council (MARC) – Evidence Based Programs for Older Adults The Managed Services Network (MSN) is partnering with regional and state organizations to offer programs that help adults manage chronic diseases, decrease stress and improve overall wellbeing. You can participate in a course either in person or virtually. Health Promotion Courses can help prevent disease or manage chronic diseases. These class- es are “evidence-based,” having been proven effective through research and evaluation. The classes provide tools to help you manage chronic conditions, develop healthy eating habits, create action plans for healthy living or focus on fitness and exercise. The courses also include self-maintenance plans to help you continue your new healthy habits after the class is over. These classes are offered to Platte County older adults 60+ and are free to participants.
Tri-County Mental Health Services/Clay County Senior Services/ MARC‑Northland Grandfamilies Tri-County Mental Health is now overseeing the Northland Grandfamilies Pro- gram in the Kansas City Northland. This program was previously led by the University of Missouri Extension Center. This program provides outreach and support services to those who are in a kinship role, such as a grandparent rais- ing a grandchild. Families can take different forms and we value all families and individuals who are willing to provide care and stability to loved ones in need. PCSF is especially proud to be offering this program to assist and offer support for those in our community who are working to navigate the role of family caregiver. Truman Heartland Community Foundation We are pleased to announce that Platte County Senior Fund has partnered with Truman Heart- land Community Foundation.
