OUR HISTORY With 25 years of experience in the Audio-Visual / Low Voltage Technology industry, Colorbeam’s founders understood that low voltage lighting was the future. COLORBEAM CIRCADIAN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY WHAT IS HUMAN CENTRIC LIGHTING? Human-Centric Lighting is “a type of lighting that can benefit the biological, emotional, health, and well-being of people. It can be achieved by tuning and dimming smart light sources such as LED to mimic the color temperature and the levels of sunlight throughout the day.” (Definition by LightingEurope) In 2017 Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael W. Young were awarded a Nobel prize for identifying the mechanisms that controls our Circadian Rhythm and the role that lighting plays in triggering those mechanisms. Their work suggests, “when optimally synchronized to natural light, our internal timekeepers direct our bodies to feel hungry, sleepy, alert, or energized at appropriate times. Too little light from the blue end of the visible spectrum during the day, or too much of that same light at night, can cause an internal clock to slip offbeat, setting off a cascade of potential health consequences.”

The correct type and intensity of light at the right time of day will work to ensure our body’s clock and the earth’s rotation remain in sync. This means invigorating cool white in the morning and relaxing, warm light in the evening will help us perform tasks and have a better night’s sleep. Light suppresses the body’s natural production of melatonin. Therefore, light, whether natural or man-made, is the main factor in our inner circadian rhythm and synchronizing this is crucial.

CIRCADIAN LIGHTING WHAT IS WHITE TUNING? White Tuning, which can be referred to as Kelvin changing or tunable white, is a lighting technique that uses LEDs to adjust the white color, temperature, and intensity of light in a room. Unlike most LED lights that have a set color temperature output, white tuning allows the user to control the temperature and intensity separate- ly to provide flexible, dynamic lighting that people can easily modify through Colorbeam’s patented GATEway processor. CIRCADIAN LIGHTING BENEFITS OF WHITE TUNING White tuning allows for the synchronization of light with our circadian rhythm, alters mood, and enhances productivity. It can also actively minimize the negative impact artificial light can have on those exposed to it. The alignment of light with the circadian rhythm prevents the disruption of normal waking and sleeping cycles. White Tuning consequently, helps those exposed to the light to be healthier and more productive during the day and sleep better at night.
