Welcome to Fall NOTICE TO FREEHOLDERS OF THE CLEAR CREEK CONSERVANCY DISTRICT By Ken Rozelle Cooler weather is fast approaching; our summer has gone by way to fast. I truly would like to thank each and every one of you for your contribution to- wards the community, whether it was a renting a boat slip, a picnic shelter, a campsite, purchasing boat fuel, or even a snack and drink at the marina. I hope everyone has had a great summer, and have also enjoyed the great bands at the Hawkeye Stor- age Event Center, the new swim raft purchased by the Lake Committee. Also, the new floating docks and new board walk built by the maintenance staff at the Marina, along with the many other nice amenities we have at Heritage Lake. We will continue into the fall and early spring of 2023, to begin new projects that will include some upgrades to the Activity Center and also a new board walk for the Lincoln Park boat tie-ups. Presentation of the Minutes: Board of Directors Board Meeting September 12, August 8, 2022 Board Meeting and August 29, 2022 Opera- 2022 tions Meeting Minutes all approved unanimously as sub- mitted. Anita Johnson (JV055)- On behalf of the Garden Club, Anita wanted to let everyone know that the tarps in Lincoln Hill are being used for a solarization. This allows the sun to kill all of the weeds and seed bank below that patch. The club is using this process to kill the weeds as it is organic and not going to harm the lake in any way. The tarps will be removed in De- cember and will be reseeded with wild flowers. Tom Novak (MS025)- Tom asked the Board to consider reno- vating the Activity Center bathrooms during the upcoming budget meeting. He believes it would be a huge benefit for concert goers as well as the community members. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: A CHRISTMAS HEADS A dress-up period Christmas helps us remember; a loving God UP! is still in control, and always has been! It’s beginning to look a lot like Chris… No, it’s not! It’s to give you time to plan your wardrobe… yes, wardrobe! We had begun a little tradition at Canaan Church that had gained some popularity. But before I explain, allow me to share a little of the backstory. The church is a product of one of the most significant events in American history. In the early 1800’s a spiritual revival swept the nation that was so pro- found that it was called the Second Great Awakening. In local newspapers, it was also called “the revival of the common man.” There was a break in its momentum during the turmoil of the Civil War, but in 1865, the spark had returned to the point it was deemed, “the third wave”, and in the scars of the recent war, it took on a deeper tone. As a result, in 1869, Canaan was founded and became a visiting point of the renowned Method- ist circuit riders of the day. We formed the idea of reliving the past to gain perspective for the present and hope for the future. For one special evening, Christmas eve, we dress in period clothing and hold an old- style Christmas Eve service. Period dress isn’t required, but you’re welcome to join us as we do! It takes time to find 1869 fashion in our day, hence, the heads- up. COVID had suspended our little tradition for a few years… kind of a modern version of the Cholera outbreaks of the 1800’s. But here we are, still meeting and worshiping. And God still revives the souls of people. Getting dressed up for a special Christmas Eve helps us remember that! Call for Content and Advertisers October is the month we begin to layout the new year edition of the Telephone Directory. Our directory has lots of useful information! Besides the white pages with many of your neighbors, it has the RED pages with good emergency information. Blue Pages contain useful information about utilities, lake information, maps, committees and more. The Yellow pages contain advertis- ers in and near to the lake, including a handy Index to help you find the advertisers offering the service you need. These ad- vertisers pay for their listings and their contribution sponsors the publication. Without them we could not provide the direc- tory free to all Lake Residents. The directory is published as near to the end of the year as possible and when available can be picked up at the POA Office. White Pages listings If you are a Heritage Lake resident an are not listed in the White Pages and want to be, please call the POA Office and ask them to add your approval for the listing to their data- base. HLCS will only list those who give their approval. If you have changed your phone number this year, please make sure the office has your current number on file. Yellow Pages Listings If you advertised in the 2022 edition, you will receive an email from HLCS requesting your renewal. If you have a business you’d like New listing for 2023, you can contact us by email at [email protected] or visit our web site at https://www.hlcs.online/advertise-1 On that page you can choose one of the available ad size options, place your order, pay for it, and even submit your ad copy. Many companies have decided NOT to publish telephone directories any longer, opting instead for online services. At HLCS we considered eliminating the directory entirely, or possibly just publishing it online. After polling several advertisers and residents, we remain convinced that publishing both in print and online is still wanted. There are still a limited number of 2022 directories (printed) available at the POA office. About the Online Telephone Directory You can find the directory at https://www.hlcs.online/hl-telephone-directory The 2023 edition will be added to the bookcase you will see there. It is viewable on a PC or Mobile Phone. Though quite small on a mobile phone, you can zoom in and out as needed to make it readable.
