EMERGENCY INFORMATION CALL 9-1-1 FOR ALL EMERGENCIES AMBULANCE, FIRE, PUTNAM COUNTY SHERIFF EMERGENCY DIRECTION NUMBERS The Heritage Lake POA and Putnam County Emergency Management have established emergency direction numbers consisting of numbers and letters designed to help First Responders locate and quickly arrive at a Heritage Lake property. All road intersections within Heritage Lake have a letter or number attached to road signs. All road intersections on Heritage Drive have numbers and all road intersections off Heritage Drive have letters. When giving directions to your property, please use the complete set of Emergency Direction numbers as listed in this community Telephone Directory. For example, the emergency direction numbers for the Clubhouse are 43-A-B. For those homes on Heritage Drive, the emergency direction number consists of two numbers (i.e., 49-50) which indicates the property is located between two numbered intersections on Heritage Drive. Contact the POA office if your emergency direction number is incorrectly listed in the directory. The HL MAP and STREET INDEX are in the blue pages of this directory. COMMUNITY FIRST RESPONDER INFORMATION ALWAYS CALL 9-1-1 The Heritage Lake community is served by emergency service first responders including the Floyd Township Fire Department, Operation Life ambulance service, several helicopter “life-flight” companies, and volunteer services including the Putnam County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Red Cross. Local first responder agencies are also assisted by first responders from other communities including Bainbridge and Fillmore. In the event first responders are needed, call the Putnam County 9-1-1 center for assistance. Please, do not call the POA office or the Firehouse to report an incident such as a fire, a severe injury or a medical situation requiring immediate attention. There are four emergency helicopter landing areas at Heritage Lake including the Floyd Township Fire Department, Lincoln Park, the Clubhouse and the Boat Launch parking lot at the Marina. In the event of a disaster at Heritage Lake, do not go into the stricken area without proper authorization. You could very easily become a statistic yourself without proper training, clothing, tools or certifications. First Responders are trained in Search and Rescue techniques, and have the proper tools and clothing. 2
FAMILY DISASTER PLAN The U.S. Department of Homeland Security suggests families be prepared for emergencies by making a Family Disaster Plan. During a disaster, help may be delayed, poten- tially for several days. Families should make an Emergency Supply Kit with supplies (including water) for at least three days, and prepare a smaller back-pack size To-Go Bag, that you can grab in a hurry or keep in your car. Family disaster planning help is available on-line from FEMA (www.fema.gov) and the Red Cross (www.redcross.org). BE INFORMED Know the sound of the Putnam County disaster warning signal (siren) and plan what to do and where to go when you hear it. Putnam County performs monthly tests of its emergency alert sirens on the first Friday of every month at 11 AM Eastern Time. There are no tests of emergency alerts when the temperature is below freezing or if there is inclement weather. If you hear the warning sirens at any other time, seek immediate shelter. Note: You may not hear a siren from inside your home. Listen to the radio and television to know what to do in case of an emergency such as severe weather. Local Radio: WREB 94.3 FM Television: 4 – WTTV (CBS); 6 – WRTV (ABC); 8 – WISH; 13 – WTHR (NBC); 59 – WXIN (FOX) Weather radios, such as the Public Alert Certified Midland WR- 120, can be used to warn you of incoming weather and other emergency notifications. These radios are available in many stores including Walmart and online. They are occasionally available free of charge to Putnam County residents. Contact David Costin at the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center, 765-653-5115 extension 100 for more information. Make sure your Weather Radio is working properly, is set up to receive Putnam County alerts, and has fresh batteries. Make sure your home smoke detector(s) are working. If they are not working, or if you do not have smoke detectors in your house, the Red Cross can provide and install them free of charge. Contact the POA office for more information. Know how to shut off electricity and gas coming into your home. Know where the main disconnects (breakers for electricity, valves for gas) are located and how to operate them. Have proper fire extinguishers available for your kitchen and garage/work areas. Know how, when and when not to use a home fire extinguisher. Plan your home fire escape routes. Always call 9-1-1 in the event of a fire in your home. More information is available at www.nfpa.org. A Heritage Lake emergency communications center has been built in the Clubhouse and would be activated when necessary to assist with providing information to the residents of Heritage Lake. A weather emergency causing road closures is an example of when the communications center would be opened. Heritage Lake residents interested in learning more about the communications center or interested in volunteering to assist in the center should contact the Emergency Preparedness Team. If you need to seek shelter other than at your home, the two designated areas at Heritage Lake are the Floyd Township Firehouse and the HLPOA Office/Clubhouse. Note: These buildings may not be open. You should only go to these buildings when instructed to do so. 4
