[email protected] Club Meetings Meetings are part business, part education and part socializing. Each component adds to the mission of growing good things in our community; education, beautification, and good strong con- nections in the Heritage Lake community. Meetings are held March through December on the second Thurs- day of the month at 9:30 at the clubhouse. Meeting changes will be posted on the Garden Club page of the hlcs.org. The POA of- fice will provide a carafe of coffee. Cups, creamer, sugar and a light snack, if desired, are the responsibility of the meeting host. Dues are $12/year and are payable at the November meeting. The club flower is the Daisy. The club tree is the Redbud. The club bird is the cardinal.

Heritage Lake Garden Club By-Laws and Standing Rules Revised 2015 Article 1 – Name The name of this club shall be the Heritage Lake Garden Club. Article 2 – Objectives 1. To beautify the Heritage Lake community. 2. To promote interest in all types of gardening. 3. To stimulate interest in design, ecology, and conservation. Article 3 – Membership Any person having attended a meeting as a guest and who is in- terested in the purpose for which the club was formed shall be eli- gible for membership. Upon payment of dues, all members will be given information regarding the duties and responsibilities of mem- bership and shall agree to abide by the by-laws and standing rules. Article 4 – Fiscal Year The fiscal year shall be from March 1 to February 28 of the follow- ing year. Article 5 – Dues The annual club dues for membership shall be $12 due at the No- vember meeting for the up-coming year. New members joining during the current year after March will be expected to pay dues for the year as prorated by the Treasurer. All members of each ad- dress included in one membership. Member will have one vote. Article 6 – Meetings The club shall meet monthly at the Clubhouse from March through December unless notified otherwise. Article 7 – Officers The elected officers shall be President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Together, these officers shall constitute the Execu- tive. To be eligible for an elected office, a candidate must be a member in good standing. Members may be nominated from the floor at the September meeting. Officers may be selected at the October meeting to assume office on March 1. These officers shall serve a period of one year.
Article 8 – Duties of the Officers President – The President shall preside at all meetings of the Club, and shall appoint standing committees and chairpersons as are applicable to the Club. Vice President – Shall preside in the absence of the President and be chairperson of the membership and yearbook commit- tees; shall appoint own committees. As such, the Vice Presi- dent shall be responsible for all articles pertaining to member- ship. Secretary - Shall attend to all correspondence, sending cards, keep a record of all meetings, and shall handle all matters re- lating to publicity and news releases. Treasurer – Shall receive all dues and issue a receipt of same if requested. The Treasurer shall pay all Club bills and give a re- port of the Club account at each meeting. Checks written on the Club account should be signed by the Treasure, but may be signed by the President if the Treasurer is not available. Article 9 - Standing Rules 1. Death of a member At the event of the death of a member, a member’s spouse, or child, a suitable memorial shall be given in the name of the Club. This shall be done by the Executive Committee. 2. Membership Permitting, Standing Committees shall be as follows: Projects – Any projects concerning the beautification of Herit- age Lake Memorial Garden – Accepting donations from friends and fam- ily, purchasing and directing the planting of trees, purchasing markers, planning of the beautification of the general Memori- al Garden area, and keeping accurate record of names, dates, and trees. Ways and Means – Coordinating any fundraising projects for the club.
Programs – Securing and introducing programs. Yearbook – Coordinating, printing, and delivering yearbook containing an up-to-date copy of the club by-laws to members. Telephone – Calling members each month to remind them of the meeting and of any information deemed important. Historian – Keeping a scrapbook with a record of activities. By-Laws – Being well acquainted with and aware of the by-laws and recommending changes when needed. Executive Committee - Chairpersons for the above Standing Committees shall be appointed by the President. Chairpersons of the individual standing committees may appoint committee officers as needed. The Executive Committee shall consist of each committee chairperson who will serve as the advisory council to the President and shall have the power to attend to emergency matters as may arise between meetings. They may present a budget for the year and establish a monthly calendar of duties. Article 10 – Amendments These by-laws may be amended by two-thirds vote of those pre- sent and voting, providing the proposed amendments have been read at the previous meeting. Article 11 – Anti-Discrimination The Club shall not discriminate against any persons wishing to join based upon race, gender, age, or sexual preference. Article 12 – Dissolution Upon dissolution, the assets of the Club shall be distributed to one or more projects or funds sponsored by the Heritage Lake Garden Club. A Garden is NOT a place; It is a Journey.
