We met our new Property Manager, Blake . He had a lot of ideas for landscaping around the clubhouse and the pool. Gloria Smith, our president, talked about growing tomatoes and gave us a recipe for dried tomatoes. She gave us all samples of Bruschetti with tomatoes, olives, and basil. It was enjoyed by all. Gloria also gave us a lesson on pressing flowers. It was very informative. We are planning a trip to Garfield Park for our next Meeting . IMPORTANT...Because of the garage sale our meeting will be on SEPTEMBER 20TH. Meet at clubhouse 9:30am. Henry David Thoreau Heritage Heartland Homemakers by Rosalynn Antcliff On August 21, 2012 eleven members met at the Clubhouse for Lunch at 11:30 am. The Hostesses were Pam Miller and Pat Atchley. The Hostess Gift was won by Audrey Birtchman. After lunch our President Pam Miller called the meeting to order, followed by our Opening items. Next were the Secretary’s Report by Rosalyn Antcliff and Treasurer’s Report by Nancy Skala from June; both reports were accepted as presented. Our various Com- mittee Reports followed from attending Members. Our Lesson this month was on “Human Trafficking”. Marianna Novak was our lesson leader, and she provided an insight in to this growing concern here in Central Indiana; including our event earlier this year as Host for the Super Bowl where prostitution unfor- tunately was present. As parents and grandparents we need to educate our children to be alert to strangers and to their surrounding at all times. We selected five days to make our Noodles at the Clubhouse starting Wednesday, September 19th. Our Homemade Noodles will be sold at the Arts & Crafts Show at the Putnam County Fair Grounds November2nd & 3rd plus any orders received from our Neigh- bors and Friends. Contact any Homemaker to place an order. Members donated School Supplies this month that we divided between Canaan Church Food Pantry, and the Coatesville Food Pan- try. Upcoming events include Coats for Kids at the County Fair Grounds on Saturday, October 27th, and a visit to Veterans Hospital on Tuesday, October 30th. Our meeting adjourned with our Club’s payer at 2:30pm. Anyone wishing more information on our Ex- tension Homemaker’s Club please call Pam Miller at 386-6226, or Marianne Novak at 386-2077. Heritage Lake Book Club by Marianne Novak We were pleased to welcome a new member to our group on August 8. Her name is Donna Miles. Welcome, Donna! Our August book club was filled with mystery since that was the genre we chose. Each member read a self-selected mystery and told us just enough to wet our appe tes to want to read the book on our own. Darlene chose Save Me by Lisa Scotoline because Jane from the Bookmobile recommended it to her. The Father tells this story about a housewife's mys- tery. Unfortunately, Darlene didn't recommend this book to us because she found the characters disagreeable. Donna's pick was Rabboni by W. Philip Keller. This book is historical fic on about Jesus' life. She recommends it to people who read the Scriptures. Although Margaret never read David Balducci, she enjoyed reading The Innocent. Even a er reading the whole book, that is s ll her ques on...who is inno- cent? If you like stories that are plot-driven, rather than character-driven, read this one. Triple Cross by Kit Ehrman was Julia's pick because Ehrman is an Indiana author. This mystery is set in Louisville, Kentucky during the Kentucky Derby. If you like both mysteries and animals, this is the book for you! The tle, Guilty Wives, grabbed Marianne's interest. This James Pa erson mystery is filled with glamour, sex, and the ostenta ous nature of Monte Carlo. If you enjoyed Desparate Housewives, you'll enjoy this book. September 12 The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh October 10 The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani November 14 11/22/63 by Stephen King To all of you who borrow books from the bookcase, we would like to extend an invita on to join us. Since we have occasional members and snow birds, don't feel that you have to come to every monthly mee ng. Feel free to pick and choose which ones you want to a end. Remember our regular mee ngs are held at the Clubhouse at 1 P.M. on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. For more informa on, call Julia Prather at 386-2431. The bookcase in the small conference room has been ge ng a lot of use by Heritage Lake residents. Books come and books go, so there is quite a turno- ver. Check us out if you haven't borrowed a book yet. Come and see what you've been missing. Once you take out one book, you'll want to read it, return it, and borrow another one. SEPTEMBER 2012

Heritage Lake HIGHLIGHTS EMAIL > [email protected] Page 13 The Clear Creek Conservancy District board of directors unapproved Meeting Minutes of August 16, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the district’s office. Directors Present: Robert C. Hansen & Brian Waldman (Not) Duane Kelly Also attending: Kathy Deer, Administrative and Financial Manager; Doug Clodfelter, Plant Operator and Operations Manager; Blake Price HLPOA Property Manager, Jim Hazelwood and Harold Paetow, HLPOA Board Director. The board conducted the first hearing of the 2013 budget. Kathy Deer reported that there had been no contact or comment from taxpayers about the proposed budget. Robert Hansen moved to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Brian Waldman seconded. Vote unanimous. Kathy Deer reviewed the financial report for the month ending July 31, 2012. Brian Waldman moved to ap- prove the financial report and Register of Claims, dated July 20 through August 16, 2012. Robert Hansen se- conded. Vote unanimous. Kathy Deer provided a written report. Banning Engineering has submitted an invoice for the Survey and Sta- tus Report of the Concrete Principal Spillway but the written report has not yet been provided to the district. Their equipment supplier demonstrated a digital laser scanner (3D) on the concrete spillway on July 27 and they also completed the traditional survey. The billing summary report shows 1,335 active accounts. One new hookup has been paid this week. There were 64 lien warning letters mailed on August 3. There were 51 lien documents prepared for filing tomorrow. The June/July billing statements were due August 15. Late fees of $1,795.40 were added to 355 accounts. The Inflow/Infiltration Policy is still being developed. In discussion about whether a licensed home inspector could complete the inspection, the board prefers having the district’s staff or contractor complete the inspec- tions. The board authorized that a website be developed so that the policy documents will be available on- line. The preliminary policy will be formatted for the board’s review in September. Homeowners will be re- quested to comment on any concerns on the new policy by the November board meeting, with the final policy ready for implementation effective January 1, 2013. Doug Clodfelter provided a written report showing the average daily flow at 165,000 GPD and peak flow at 222,000 GPD for the month of July with .64 inches precipitation. The spare pump for LS G5 was rebuilt by Quality Repair at a cost of $3,986.67. A new pump would have cost $7,994.40. The LS G3 pump was rebuilt at Quality Repair at a cost of $2,142.86. A new one would have cost $3,898.80. The alternator switch at LS P4 was found to be the cause of Omni-site cellular alarms on August 12. The first alarm at 6 p.m. showed overload failure on Pump 1, but since there are two pumps, a response was not required until 9 p.m. when a high water alarm went off. In responding to the high water alarm, the alternator switch was found to need replaced. The authorization to proceed with the installation of surge protection on the Treatment Plant’s trans- fer switch and generator for $710 was faxed to MacAllister on July 21. MacAllister has suggested also trying a surge protector on LS P2 to see if that solves a problem with the generator’s operation. The generator does not synchronize voltage with the power company when the power comes back on so the generator keeps run- ning and does not shut off. Accurate Bore vacuumed grease and grit out of LS P2, M6 and M7. IDEM inspected the treatment plant operations on Monday, July 16. All of the effluent discharge limits are fine. The inspector did note too much foam in the aeration tank, solids in the clarifier and grease floating on the chlorine contact tank. Skimming the clarifier and chlorine contact tank are daily maintenance items. The foam is an issue ten months out of the year. A consultant, Pat Beamon, will visit the plant tomorrow and offer suggestions which will hopefully make the plant more efficient. He is knowledgeable in methods of process control and recently put on a continuing education class Doug attended. The board set the next regular meeting for 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the district’s office. SEPTEMBER 2012
