THIS YEAR’S SECOND FA GIRLS’FOOTBALL WEEK WILL TAKE PLACEIN OCTOBERGirls and women across the country will be encouraged toplay football as part of the week which runs from 10-16October.In April more than 52,000 girls, double the original targetof participants, took part in the first week of activities insessions delivered in schools, clubs, community groupsand wider organisations across the country.This autumn additional focus will be on encouraging high-er and further education establishments to put on female-specific sessions at the start of their academic years. It ishoped that more than 22,000 will take part, a 20 per centincrease on October 2015 – therefore reaching 75,000women and girls in total in 2016.

Kelly Simmons, FA director of football participation anddevelopment, said: “After the success of our first week inApril, it’s important that we continue to build on this in Oc-tober.“The FA has committed to doubling female football partici-pation by 2020 and events such as this are key in meetingthese targets.“We’re encouraging as many further and higher education-al institutions as possible, along with schools, clubs andother organisations to put on sessions and give more wom-en and girls the chance to play football.“Hopefully these will prove popular and will continue torun throughout the academic year, giving people the op-portunity to play regularly and enjoy their football, whichwe know is crucial to increasing participation.” -Football is the largest female team sport in England withmore than 2.89m players. There are more than 5,900 wom-en’s and girls’ teams playing affiliated club football.Make sure you register your girls football week activityHERE and you will be able to access resources such assession plans, ideas and promotional tools.The London FA will be running multiple activities forwomen and girls across the week including an event for FEand HE students - more details to be released.

THE LONDON FAYOUTH COMMITTEEIn September we will be opening ourrecruitment window for the 2016-17LFA Youth Committee

The Youth Committee is a platform for young people* inLondon to input into the development of football within thecapital and help to deliver the London FA’s new StrategicFramework. The Youth Committee will work with the LFAteam and partners on task groups and projects, be a voicefor young people within London and receive support andpersonal development opportunities linked with our widerWorkforce Academy.
