A WORD FROMOUR PRESIDENT
First and foremost, I would love to thank God for the opportunity to serve the NABABaruch Chapter for the upcoming academic year. Joining NABA freshman year has been one of the best decisions that I’vemade at Baruch. As a freshman, NABA has invested in me by offering opportunities toattend ERC and Nationals twice. This amazing experience has allowed me to traveloutside of New York but most importantly step out of my comfort zone. Prior to taking onthe role of President, I served as head of the marketing committee and assisted indeveloping NABA's membership base and event attendance numbers, as well as withdeveloping the organization’s brand on campus. This past June, we had the amazing opportunity to travel as a group to OrlandoFlorida for NABA’s 49th National Convention. Students were presented with theopportunity to network with more than 2,000 members and 70 corporate partners from allover the world. Baruch College had over 20 students in attendance and of those, 11students were sponsored to attend the convention. We are delighted to share that allof our attendees had the opportunity to interview and network with some of themost influential companies across the nation. Our student members were counting on us to lead and guide them. Throughoutthe 2017-2018 academic year, events held by Alumni, professionals andadministrators on campus all contributed to the success of our students at theNational Convention. Although we were not awarded the Student Chapter of the YearAward, we were ecstatic about Kaiyell Pettie’s accomplishment as a NABA NationalsScholarship Recipient. I am happy to have him serve as the CFO of my team for thisacademic year. I am proud to say that sacrificing sleep as we helped each other prepare forinterviews is an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. NABA is my family and webuild each other up! On behalf of the board, I would like to thank everyone who made this experiencepossible for our chapter and students. Thank you alumni, the NABA New YorkChapter, Baruch Administration and CUNY for the continuous 40 years of support. You all play an instrumental role of making an impact in the lives of our students.Years later, students will look back and know that someone invested in them. A WORD FROM OURSCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
To say that my experience at the 2018 NABA National Convention was life- changing would be an outright understatement. Although it was my first NABAConvention, I learned so much from attending that I can’t wait to bring all of my gathered knowledge to our Baruch campus in the fall. It was a privilege to enter the 4 day convention as a 2018 NABA National Scholarship recipient. I was honored to represent my school at this convention with nearly 2,000 professionals from over 50 companies in attendance. On top of the mandatory sessions I was required to attend as a scholarship recipient, I was also able to fit in 8 interviews with NABA corporate partners. This included companies such as Goldman Sachs, PwC, Prudential, Grant Thornton, and many others. This conventiongave me a platform to showcase the young professional that NABA Baruch transformedme into. Having just finished my freshman year, I am fortunate enough to currentlyhave 5 internship offers for 2019 due to the NABA Convention! It is unheard of for a student of color to obtain an internship offer with all of the Big 4 Accounting firms, nonetheless a freshman. My goal is to inspire future generations of NABA membersthat anything and absolutely everything is possible, no matter how absurd it may seem. Months before attending this convention, I set time aside to develop a list of goals and objectives I needed to complete. Not only did this include securing a 2019internship, but it also included finding a way to give back to the NABA organization while attending the convention. This led me to signing up to volunteer during the NABA convention at the two marquee events that took place, the Red Carpet Experience and the Awards Soiree. Personally, I have not met any celebrities before in my lifetime, but that all changed during this NABA convention. At the Red Carpet Experience, I volunteered as an on-stage award presenter. What they didn't tell me was that I was going to present the trophy awards on-stage to Sherri Shepherd! I was able to have a deep conversation with her backstage about my NABA journey thus far. A WORD FROM OUR 2017 ERC Attendees \"This convention gave me a platform to showcase the youngprofessional that NABA Baruch transformed me into. Having just finished my freshman year, I am fortunate enough to currently have 5 internship offers for 2019 due to the NABA Convention!\" Kaiyell Pette '21 \"I let my personality shine during the career fair, and in the interview booths. I had a total of 3 interviews. I received two summer internshipoffers the day after I got back to New York. It is safe to say that if I hadn’t gotten a chance to learn about myself and put myself in uncomfortable situations, I wouldn’t have been successful in getting my offers.\" Fathiat Ladejobi '21\"I interviewed and interacted with professionals from companies such asGoldman Sachs, Microsoft, and Prudential. Additionally, I am proud tosay that I have already received 2 internship offers for 2019 withundoubtedly more to come. Thank you for allowing us to not only chaseour dreams but for giving us the tools to catch and accomplish them aswell. \" Mayer Estinville '21 \"Moreover, several students received internships/full-time offers including myself. Going to the convention with set goals in mind, I am assured that I have accomplished my goals and I’m in the process ofcreating new ones to challenge myself to be better, wiser and stronger. \" Brianna Farquharson '18
