Description: Teemu Järvi Illustrations Lookbook

Teemu Järvi is an artist and designer of many awards. He specializes in wilderness themes. Järvi’s art and projects include a wide range of printmaking, book and magazine illustrations as well as product designs and concepts.

The works derive from the artist’s lifelong love of nature. A ceaseless explorer of Finnish woods and lakes, Järvi is familiar with the wildlife through first-hand experience. He works with traditional tools such as the reed pen, creating works of art that transport us from our hectic urban existence to the soothing calm of primeval wilderness.

Teemu Järvi’s craftsmanship is intimate. Like a hunter-gatherer of old, he too has a deep connection with the tools and models he uses. His work focuses on the essential: the amazingly complex and diverse nature, ever diminishing under the stress of our modern life.

FOREST GREETINGS

FOREST GREETINGSTo its creatures, the forest is everything: a labyrinth of untoldadventures, a den’s warn embrace, a wellspring of nourishment. Theplay of light and shadow make it ever-changing. A summer’s day isa triumph of light; in the winter night, darkness dominates. In theshade of a secluded glen, a lynx can laze away the hours of daylightand wait for the night. When darkness falls, the forest awakens. The forest lives in the eternal now, each moment different and yetthe same. The bear feasts on berries, and the raven croaks in a with-ered tree. The rabbit becomes a blur running from the fox, and thevole slips into a hole in the ground. Reaching up, the wild mush-rooms are a hint taller now than they were yesterday. In the heartof the forest, an ancient tree falls on a bed of moss. As it rots away, new life springs forth from its remains.

“The sacred bear, the king of the forest, was believed to be a supernatural creature. Born in the heavens, it was thought that the bear would die inthe fall and be reborn when it emerged from its den in the spring. “

SPIRIT BIRDIn myths across the world, the human soul is often seen as a bird.Primeval Finns believed that one’s spirit bird flies free when onesleeps.
