Power is Knowledge By: Rafael Ortiz
Nonrenewable Energy Resources A resource that cannot be replaced by any natural means ,also a high consumption rate with a growing population. Examples: Oil and Natural gas
Inexhaustible Energy Resources A resource that cannot be exhausted or depleted by any human activity. Examples: Geothermal and Solar Radiation
Renewable Energy Resources A resource that can be replaced and used quickly by human usage. Examples: Wind and Waves
Advantages of Wind Energy It is a clean energy source. They don’t rely on fossil fuels for power. They don’t cause emissions unlike power plants.
Disadvantages of Wind Energy Noise and visual pollution like birds running into the rotor blades of wind turbines.
Advantages of Hydroelectric Energy Clean fuel source relying on water instead of fossil fuels. It won’t pollute the air because it doesn’t use coal or natural gas. It produces its own energy without relying on other power sources.
Disadvantages of Hydroelectric Energy The construction of the dam causes the blockage of a natural river or lake. The building of roads slows down the natural water flow. It may affect the fish species that live in that area.
Advantages of Solar Energy It is a renewable energy source that causes little harm to the environment. It does not require any fuel for it run efficiently. It reduces the cost of electricity bills by a margin.
Disadvantages of Solar Energy The cost of purchasing the technology would a hefty price. It takes up a lot of space for the needed requirements. It is merely dependent on certain weather conditions.
Advantages of Geothermal Energy A clean energy source that can be replenished while fossil fuel reservoirs cannot. Minimal emissions from the usage of geothermal energy. Savings have increased with the heating/cooling of houses, offices, anec etc.
Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy The location for the construction of sites are hard to come by as there is not as many around the world. Earthquakes are a major hazard when constructing these plants as the land is disturbed and can lead to natural disasters.
Advantages of Biomass Energy It is a renewable energy source that uses crops, manure, and garbage. You’ll be spending about ⅓ less consumption than coal and oil. The resource is plentiful around the globe.
Disadvantages of Biomass Energy The price requirements for processes could leave some fields unfinished. It also requires large space for such energy harvesting methods for this resource.
Advantages of Coal Energy It produces high amount of energy when burned. A reliable energy resource It is cheap and provides a stable price
Disadvantages of Coal Energy It is a nonrenewable resource that is depleting. Burning causes pollutants to be spread throughout the air. Environment is heavily impacted when burning coal.
Advantages of Oil Energy An energy resource that provides a large amount of energy. It is available worldwide through transportation. It is an essential part of major companies to produce goods.
Disadvantages of Oil Energy It can lead to emissions of greenhouse gasses when used. Several chemicals are released into the atmosphere, which could cause health problems. It has to be readily checked in order to prevent an accident.
Advantages of Natural Gas Energy It is a much cleaner fossil fuel when burned. It is plentiful unlike most oil company products. It is less expensive than other fossil fuels.
Disadvantages of Natural Gas Energy It is very combustible and must be handled with extreme care. It is not a renewable resource. It is another emitter of greenhouse gasses.
Advantages of Nuclear Energy It can generate a high amount of energy at one plant. It has low emission of greenhouse gasses. The technology has been useful for using this energy with care.
Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy There is a small chance for nuclear meltdowns. Radioactive waste is a problem of using this kind of energy. The energy source is in short supply and demand.
