Therefore, the majority has an interest in safe driving and an incentive to report unsafe driving to prevent themselves from one day becoming the passenger of the lawless and reckless, because they have no choice than to board whatever transport is available, even when it is the most dangerous. For all the amazing contributions that social media and technology made to the improvement of people’s lives, they also became a secret weapon in the hands of those who seek every opportunity to sidestep the law and their common responsibility to earn as much as possible with no price too high to pay for some earnings. It is an undisputable fact that WhatApp social media groups and friends have connected Namibians as never before in history, but it is also a valuable tool in responsible and responsive hands where road blocks and traffic officers can be warned from within a car where a driver is breaking rules as far as the road stretches and is just lucky not to cause an accident just looking for a place to happen with inevitable fatalities. Travelling in Namibia is not a luxury, but a fact of life, because of the lay of the land and the distribution of the population. If the streets of Windhoek and the other towns in Namibia are quiet, the roads in between are congested and more dangerous. Everything is far. Were destinations not far apart, people would have visited their families every weekend and not only during holidays and long weekends in May, that are usually extended by leave days to make the most of every opportunity to return to the place that Namibians refer to as home in the remotest corners of the land. More vigilant eyes on the road and more technology in the hands of citizens who are law-abiding and caring about their fellow Namibians, will result in safer kilometres and bigger joy of journeying safely on the most beautiful roads on the African continent. With the longest weekend still ahead, Namibians should pick up the challenge of believing in themselves and their capacity and will have to make a difference at every level of existence. To report is to protect and the coming weekend presents a challenge to every Namibian to prove that it can be safe to travel if Namibians are responsible enough to report impending disaster from happening. The only statistic that matters is the statistic of national contribution in the national interest, because Namibians should care as they themselves could be the next road fatality statistic.
