The onslaught on health is total with evidence that the state medical scheme (PSEMAS) was raided and plundered at the same time. Similarly, the plundering of the Ministry of Education where corruption, tender fraud and ghost teachers and disaster at all levels of the Namibia Students’ Assistance Fund with students facing deportation from foreign institutions, cannot be seen in isolation. Namibians must start considering and fear a total onslaught on its natural and human resources. The dots should be connected that the ministries with the biggest budgets are the targets. The final dot that should be connected is the understaffed, underfunded and demotivated anti-corruption commission that contributes to the growing culture of impunity and an office of the Attorney General that is seemingly independent of Namibia and its challenges and priorities. The chilling picture emerges that Namibia needs serious skills and experienced investigators with a deep knowledge of complicated financial transactions and law to unravel the octopus that is sucking the life out of the public service and the public out of hope. Namibia is losing more than money and development. Namibia is losing its freedom, innocence, reputation and dignity as an independent country representing good governance and respect for the rule of law that is evading the rest of the world. The challenges of 2018 will be harder and more bitter than the challenges of 2017, but with leadership settled, Namibians will overcome.
