The delegates said no to might, but yes to right and Namibia owes them a debt for reminding them of the value of self-sacrificing duty. Those who wanted to destroy the president as the first amongst equals in fact achieved the opposite by securing him the Swapo presidency he had all along and another five-year-term as President, because they will not recover to challenge again. Dr Geingob must be most grateful! In the aftershocks of the political landslide it is most significant that the delegates of the ruling party, regardless of race, colour, social and economic status and from all regions overwhelmingly support the Geingob team, Ms Nandi Netumbo-Ndaitwah and Sophia Shaningwa and Marco Hausiku. It was due to Swapo that Nahas Angula, Helmuth Angula, Jerry Ekandjo, Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, Armas Amukwiyu, Petrina Haingura and Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun, mounted their mini-rebellion as the proverbial Trojan horse. Those that are shocked by the outcome of the congress are only those whose arrogance was blinded by hate. The challengers overestimated themselves and underestimated the everyday supporters, because they have flown so high that they lost contact and touch with the challenges everyday Namibians face. The challenging cabal could obviously not yet find the courage to resign in order to save some self-respect. Namibians should not hold their breaths for that to happen as they might just die because of a lack of oxygen. The double standards should make a maggot vomit and the opportunism is only equalled by the arrogance. History needs time and reflection, but the 2017 Congress will remain a watershed of seismic proportions and much more than a new, elected leadership. Might, arrogance and unlimited riches were defeated by loyalty, humility and respect of a legacy of leadership who put Namibia and their party first. Now Namibians are again reminded of the difference between friends for personal benefit and comrades of national interests. The one only lasts in good times and the other in good and bad times but especially in the toughest times. The victory of President Geingob and his team is a victory for the people by the people and, party and not Namibia for persons by persons. The Rubicon is crossed.
