Because of the cold-heartedness and cruelty the obvious is ignored. The explanation by the owner of Hochland Engen that the security company should explain its actions could have been accepted were it not for the 2015 video showing petrol attendants leading the attack on a young man who was run over by a car in his attempt to escape. Tragically the few seconds that his foot was trapped under the wheel was his only reprieve from an assault of a gang of petrol attendants acting like a pack of hyenas, each trying to get in a bite at a mouse. The story of the two videos is not that a security company is out of control, but that the staff that represent the Engen brand are also out of control as participants in attacks of the same nature. It is difficult not to notice that the same weapons were conveniently at hand as if kept at the ready for the past two years begging to be used at the slightest provocation. There can be no other explanation for the lack of action in 2015 that repeated itself in 2017. There were enough guards and petrol attendants to bring an unruly patron under control until the police arrived to deal with both matters, except if the perpetrators derived some immunity leading to a culture of excessive force. Cowardice and refusal to accept responsibility or even having the basic decency to apologise can be mitigated by some bravery to accept responsibility, to act decisively and last but not least to apologise and make it right by the victims. They are proud Namibians and were beaten into submission at an Engen Service Station. Fellow Namibians should not sacrifice their pride, but should help rebuild the victims by dismantling the arrogance and immunity of the cruel and savage. Not acting will be tantamount to complicity. Silence will make all Namibians victims of the strong who force the weak and the poor into submission. Namibians should not only stand together, but should stand up for victims on every level. Therein lays the pride of a nation worthy of the name and earning the right to be called Namibian.
