Most importantly, the campaigns are waged by democrats who accept democracy www.informante.web.na only when they win, but when they lose, first questions it and finally bring it under facebook.com/informantenam suspicion. But slowly a reality is emerging that Namibian political development is unique and renders traditional political science as of little value in present-day Namibia, as much as the academia and self-proclaimed analysts who wants to believe other- wise. If the smoke and mirrors of Namibian party politics and democracy settle, the facts will speak for themselves. There is a rather a broad national consensus on land reform amongst society and even the divide amongst some youth activists and the older political generation is closing. Of course, there is division amongst Swapo leaders and the financial and political interest of some, but it is not a national challenge, but exposes factions of greed rather than values. What is true is that every day Namibians find it difficult to understand when ministers, senior civil servants and CEOs of State-Owned Enterprises(SOEs) differ in public and parliament. That is what makes Namibian democracy especially great and stable. Unity and solidarity formed a fortress during the military and diplomatic strug- gles of Swapo in the dangerous world of war. Peace and independence changed all that. Different opinions in households and blood relatives are now commonplace and the SADC guest must feel free, safe and independent in Windhoek. It is a greater democracy at work in a small country that will serve the founda- tions of a transforming SADC well. The simple truth is that Swapo with a majority of 80% and a party president with close to 90 % of the votes can only have enemies within its own ranks. The alterna- tive – that 10% pose a threat to 90 % of the political power should be unthinkable, The Swapo party and its combative secretary-general, Sophia Shaningwa, must bring their own coordinators and internal wings to heel and the rest of the leader- ship should learn to ignore gossip and rally the faithful in the national interest. This campaign of predicting a failed state by the signs outside of the borders are now old and boring. Societies would like to hear some thanks for good leadership when the Zimbabwe repossession of land did not blow over to Namibia as the prophets of doom predicted and believed until recently. They should congratulate the leadership for not allowing the violent uprisings that shut down tertiary institutions in South Africa or the demonstrations of de- structions of nearly whole towns. They should be grateful that no acts of xenophobia occurred at home and, mostly, that a radical, militant political party like the EFF did not attract the fan club it has there. They do not live in the DRC where the body count doesn’t matter anymore and the land question in Namibia is a dialogue and not a revolution against the constitution. Finally, it would be nice if the chronically pessimistic thank Dr Geingob and his Cabinet for a revised economic empowerment strategy in the place of the contro- versial NEEEF-bill and be inspired by the proof of responsive government that leaves nobody out. They will find the same comrades and SADC neighbours of 1992, not a baby of the international world as in 1992, but in 2018 it is a grown up nation with leaders that can unite SADC. As the saying goes…. in Namibia’s President Geingob they also have the right man for the job.
