The poverty-stricken supporters of political parties see how millions of Na- mibian dollars are spent on court cases that are the core of the political purse. Because of legal proceedings, the voters do not have an idea yet who their legitimate representatives in parliament, regional councils, municipalities and village councils are. Civil servants are dragged before in a tasteless public ex- ecution and threats od dismissal on TV news programmes while their families sit and watch how their parents are insulted by the leaders that must inspire and motivate and not assassinate. The term “poor” was always a badge of courage and an inspiration for our ancestors to shake the shackles of poverty and the slavery of the mind. It is a history of pride without prejudice, frugality and extreme discipline that still sees the elderly walking today with a torn shirt to toil in a small field, because production is the measure of a man. Just like an education of a culture of care of a five-year-old toddler who is bravely setting off to fetch the two goats that are the wealth of a family who will never regard themselves as poor. In towns and cities, the poor will never refuse a rich or important man or woman a cup of water or a piece of bread that was received in front of a shop- ping complex. Those that suffer from depravation are proud and have faith in good leader- ship and the small light at the end of the tunnel. It is all they have. They are the backbone of peace and stability, because for those who have nothing, not even N$1, tomorrow will be better. The sad part is that the poor and marginalised - through the lack of N$1 to settle a debt to save a life of a family member - do not know about a raging debate because they don’t have technology, devices or signals to contribute to the national debate or programs about themselves. Any Namibian should test his courage and knock on the door of the primi- tive structure in any squatter camp and ask for a place to rest to experience support by sharing a piece of an only blanket. They will be fed with what is in the house and the poor will refuse any reward for any kindness shown to them. It is time to stop and bow the heads in respect of the left behind, because they keep democracy alive and healthy by voting for improvement in their lives from those that now use them as political landmines. Poor, poor Namibia. Bend down to the poverty in the streets and in the remotest villages. If they listen not only to their own voices they will surely hear the whispers of the poor. Not vocabulary -- but a national conscience and hard self-sacrificing courage – is the warrior for compassion. The less fortunate have all the right to expect it, because they struggle daily for survival, The poor are not a word or debate. They are they are special brothers and sisters that constantly remind us of our privilege and their pride.
