REGISTRATION NUMBER: 2008/042 TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY. Namibians are better off for it, because when he closed the door of State House for the few privileged, it opened for the masses of underprivileged patriots. Democracy is the winner, because a historic 87% majority has spoken for him and more than 80% supported the party that nominated him. What Dr Geingob did not have control over is the about-turn and character assassination by so-called friends who benefitted from his status even before he was voted as the Swapo presidential candidate and those that claimed a presidential victory that was not theirs. For that matter it is not even Swapo’s victory. Namibia is the President’s mandate as he received more votes than Swapo. In simple terms, it means that ordinary Namibians regardless of their political beliefs expect more from him than the supporters of Swapo can demand from him. The election result definitely does not reflect an extraordinary effort from a self-appointed group of organisers who want to pretend that they made Dr Geingob president. It is just ridiculous, because to prove their influence, they would have to undo the vote of nearly 90% Namibians and hell will freeze over sooner. If Dr Geingob threw down the shackles that some of his so-called friends and supporters wanted to tie him with since he is not good enough for some of his comrades, it does not mean that he is not revered and respected by the 87% percent who voted for him. The in-fighting in Swapo is blown out of proportion by its volume and not by sense or reason that new technology adds to the political debate. What stayed in the bedrooms of politics is now more in public than ever before. That is the nature of the beast. The sad truth is that had the same communication technology that Swapo members and leaders now use against each other been available during the liberation struggle, the liberation war would have been lost before the first shot could have been fired. Swapo would have been defeated by internal political betrayal. In fact, the party is now a more effective opposition of itself than the other political parties in the country could ever have been the past 27 years. The past weekend saw the lowest point of attempts to cast suspicion on the national leaders of the party by a deliberate distortion of the educational policy by the party who was in charge of education since independence. The tragedy is that the onslaught against leaders of the party is led from within. The charge of internal assassination is led by elements who are puppets of the economic pirates sailing under a Swapo flag. The failed controversy that was supposed to be stirred up by a supposed U-turn on free education by Dr Geingob exposes the depth of entitlement amongst the very small group that wants to buy influence in the party. Those that can buy influence will just as easy sell off new-found friends when their usefulness expires or when the puppets won’t dance to the tune. The truth is that those who wanted to scare parents that they will pay for education will never have children in state schools, because they buy what they need and not educate what a nation needs. Those that tried to stoke the fires around school fees in many cases benefitted from inflated tenders to build classrooms, school feeding schemes and sat with folded hands while educational officials and fake teachers plundered the nation and robbed children of a decent educational environment. Skeletons of unfinished classrooms, collapsing walls, teachers who run shebeens from school grounds and impregnate their young learners, are the gravestones of education as a political tool. Not much will remain for the Namibian nation as the good heart of the President is shot full of holes by those pretending to be his friends and supporters. Namibians are failing spectacularly if they allow the idea to get hold that parents are not responsible for their children’s future and that government must adopt every Namibian by birth. Part of transformation is that Namibians must abandon the culture of a government that must do everything for everyone. Most Namibians, by far the majority, still have pride in what they can contribute. They are not part of political campaigns and friendship offensives for their own benefit. By far the majority of Namibians are seized with making Namibia the best it can be in good times and in bad.
