Sam Nujoma, increased his popular support exceeding party-political popularity, because a red united Namibia believed and still believe that their vote will count with the leaders they vote for, irrespective their party power to the people membership. Leaders who are under constant threat by some cannot deliver constant and inclusive service to all. A unified society is the only remedy against factionalism and personal gain -- that can hamper progress and mutual trust – if ignored for too long. It is becoming clear that national interest and growing unity not used as a development and an investment tool are useless and nothing more than a slogan without a soul if not maintained permanently. South Africa also now proved that any political change and leadership change can only benefit the community if it happens within the democratic rules that bind stability together with a strong thread of peace and tolerance. The South African experience should prove to Namibians that the ties that bind can quickly and unexpectedly unravel. Therefore, the bond keeping the nation together should be maintained and strengthened continuously on all fronts of the Namibian household. It is a fact of logic that Namibia will not escape the adverse economic obstacles that the South African economy might encounter due to factional fighting and division. But, Namibia is better equipped to deal with the adversity that might come. It is a globally accepted fact that the international standing of Namibia and the country’s commitment to its international obligations is higher than that of their big brother and therefore Namibia might and surely will escape the negative images that haunt the South African societies. While factionalism and provincialism add to the national division of the South African society, they also create an impression that communities have lost their pride and confidence, something that a united and stable Namibia with a growing culture of strong and responsive leadership since independence is not guilty of. Namibians might not only escape the negative outlooks for South Africa, but can even increase investment and development. They have developed a culture that the rule of the mob, factions and instability elsewhere and close by cannot be imported into the Namibian culture, because Namibians protect their independence - for which so many sacrifices were made – fiercely. The monuments of the casualties of war spread over the Namibian countryside and forests, are the milestones that guide the free and independent Namibia on the road to the future of peace, prosperity and stability through the great discourse amongst men and women as first amongst equals. Therein lies the comfort and challenge that Namibians have in themselves and which distinguishes them as a free and independent smaller brother in the region and the world, and not as the identical twin of anybody. Namibia is now the flag bearer of stability and represents a growing culture of responsive democracy in a region gripped by a revolution of factionalism and self-interest. In the end credible and stable leadership will also prevail.
