Vacations are exciting to plan and prepare for, a time to get away, relax, and restore. This summer, whether it’s a road trip, flight destination or a staycation, consider taking these security tips into consideration. While we might be in vacation mode, fraudsters are always at work. Here are our top tips to consider before you pack your bags: 1 BOOK TRAVEL FROM A SECURE WEBSITE When making reservations such as flights, car rentals, hotels, or tours, be sure to use a secure and reputable site. Book travel through well-known sites you recognize or can find reputable information about online. Any sites that don’t have a secure checkout page should be avoided. 2 ENABLE PASSCODES/PIN ON MOBILE DEVICES BEFORE LEAVING Update your password protections and other layers of security on mobile devices like cell phones, tablets, and laptops. 3 TURN OFF AUTOMATIC WIFI AND BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY Know what you are connecting to before you do. 4 ONLY USE SECURE WI-FI NETWORKS Use safe browsing habits when connected to public Wi-Fi or hotspots. On open connections, hackers could be using the same connection to intercept the information you’re sending. If necessary, use password protected connections or your phone’s data plan when checking banking information or other sensitive sites. 5 DON’T OVERSHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA Consider waiting to post updates from your trip until after you return. Criminals may see that you are away from home on social media and attempt to steal from you.
