A Brief History

1984Since the first day we opened ourdoors as Gwinnett Area TechnicalSchool, our goal has been toprovide students with aneducation that leads directly to arewarding career.

Web. 3 Sep 2015.In the 1980s, business and http://quest.eb.com/search/102_537378/1/102_537378/citeindustry experienced a vastchange in technology.To meet the demand fortechnological training, GwinnettTech expanded our offerings toinclude a wider variety of high-tech programs.

Technical Education In 1988, we changed our name to Gwinnett Technicalin Georgia Institute, better reflecting our mission and purpose. The next year, we were approved to grant the associate degree of applied technology (AAT) in six program areas, paving the way for SACSCOC accreditation, which we gained in record time. Gwinnett Tech reached another benchmark in our history on July 6, 2000, when we changed our name to Gwinnett Technical College to better reflect our role in the region's higher education market. In 2005, GTC completed a governance transfer from Gwinnett County Public Schools to the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). Gwinnett Tech is now one of the largest technical colleges in the state of Georgia.

GTC TodayThroughout our 30-year history, GTC hasexpanded to include a variety of newfacilities, such as the George BusbeeInternational Center for WorkforceDevelopment, the D. Scott Hudgens, Jr.Early Education Center, and a state-of-the-art Life Sciences Center.Today, Gwinnett Tech offers nearly 150associate (AAS) degrees, diplomas, andcertificates in more than 50 program areas.As one of the state's largest technicalcolleges, we serve more than 18,000students annually through our creditprograms, continuing education seminarsand workshops to improve job skills andprovide specialized training, and the adulteducation program.

Alpharetta – North FultonIn January 2016, Gwinnett Tech opened the doorsto its new campus in Alpharetta-North Fulton. Thefirst campus building on the 25-acre site has threestories and is approximately 95,000 square feet,housing both classrooms and administrativeoffices. Initial program offerings informationTechnology, Bioscience, Business, Criminal Justice,Early Childhood Care & Education, HealthSciences, and Hotel, Restaurant & TourismManagement.
