Keep in mind that a coin could be either low or high end for the grade, have stunning color or be dull, all of which radically affect a coin’s value. Yes, there can be huge price differences within a grade, and we offer estimates as a guide so Collector’s can have a better idea of value. One thing we will never do is offer low ball estimates in order to claim stronger sales. These published estimates represent what Legend Rare Coin Auctions determines to be an approximate high wholesale value for the coin. The numbers are based upon current market values, similar trades, auction prices, published prices, and a consideration of the coin’s quality. There is no guarantee that the estimated prices are minimums or are exactly what you can expect to get if you attempt to resell them wholesale. LOT 167 1C 1943 BRONZE. PCGS MS61 RB CAC Legend Rare Coin Auctions is honored to present this classic 20th century numismatic treasure. This awesome coin is truly legendary and recognized by collectors and dealers alike as one of the most sought after and famous of all 20th century rarities. The 1943 Copper or Bronze cent has been the subject of millions of phone calls to coin shops over the years and a date that had us all digging through pocket change and rolls of pennies from the bank with the hopes that we would be lucky enough to find one! Well luck has shined on us because this presently offered coin is the REAL DEAL, and is truly among the FINEST KNOWN extant specimens. There are 20 enumerated in the combined PCGS and NGC Population data, accounting for upgrades, regrades, crossovers, and the like, perhaps 10-15 distinct examples are known in all grades, mostly circulated, ranging from XF45-AU58. During World War II, various metals, namely copper and nickel were needed for military purposes, including munitions and were therefore commandeered for that purpose, causing the mint to look for other metals that could be used in the production of Lincoln Cent coinage. In 1943, the copper and tin in the bronze planchets used for the ubiquitous cent were needed for war production. Some experimentation took place in 1942, with the silver colored zinc coated steel cent of 1943 being issued for circulation. It does seem that some 1942 planchets were left over in the coinage hoppers which were then struck in 1943, and released accidentally. The first one to be discovered was received in change from a school cafeteria in March 1947 by Don Lutz, Jr. That coin recently graded AU53 by NGC and sold in the 2019 FUN auction, see more below. The presently offered MS61 RB is very high end for the grade, and while we make no guarantees, we think this coin is undergraded, the eye appeal is certainly much better than what you would expect for a 61. Additionally, the technical grade is fantastic in all aspects including strike, luster and aesthetic appeal. This sharply struck coin is the second FINEST numerically graded by PCGS (behind the MS62 BN coin that has an extensive provenance to 1957 and is currently impounded in the Bob Simpson Collection). Easily identified as the James Schirrippa Collection coin, with its tiny spot by the L in LIBERTY and small mark next to the C in CENT. Rich orange color mixes with some violet-blue patina over smooth brown surfaces. With a coin of this rarity and fame, the numeric grade almost doesn’t matter, the opportunity to add such a RARE coin does not come up that often! Do you realize, if you become the proud new owner of this classic rarity, you take your place in history as one of only a handful of collectors throughout the world to have the privilege to do so? This isn’t just a coin, this is a national treasure that represents an era in history when the free world defeated the oppression and imperialism of Japan and totalitarian- ism of Nazi Germany! A time when people came together to save lives, fight for freedom, and advance the good of mankind. In your hand will be the coin that forever symbolizes all of this struggle and triumph, and arguably the greatest generation in American history. PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 1. This coin does not have an auction record anywhere. We sold a PCGS AU55 CAC in our May 2014 Regency Auction for a record $329,000. As the ONLY RB graded, this coin carries a Collectors Universe value of $425,000. With just a single PCGS MS62 finer, a coin that will not likely be offered anytime soon, as it is impounded in the Bob Simpson Collection, this is the BEST PCGS graded coin available! We KNOW our own record could fall when this important American numismatic treasure crosses the block. Good luck! PCGS# 82710 | ESTIMATE: $375,000+ 65

PCGS MS65 From our sale of the Maybach Collection, January 2019, lot 103, where it was described as: “This is a very eye appealing GEM example of this classic Buffalo nickel issue--one of the most famous issues in all of American numismatics. Highly lustrous surfaces beam from all over with a wonderful multi-colored iridescent pastel toning seen on both sides, especially on the obverse. Generally well struck, there is just a touch of the typical weakness known for the date, as the reverse die was worked over to take off some clashmarks. Indeed that is how this variety was created, when an overzealous filing with an emery board took off the some of the clashmarks, as well as the Buffalo’s right front leg. Generally visible only with a strong glass is a tiny cut and a few minor ticks on the reverse.” PCGS 55, NGC 54. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $24,000 and this coin brought $20,563. LOT 232 5C 1913 TYPE 2. PCGS PR68 Monumental quality for this early Proof Buffalo. Only 1,514 pieces were struck and this stellar example is tied with the absolute finest known today. The currently offered PR68 is tied for FINEST graded at PCGS and it is a beautifully toned coin that is totally worthy of its lofty designation. The eye appeal is exceptional and it is a perfect combination of nickel blue to the centers and framed in varying shades of gold, yellow and crimson on both sides! The strike is bold throughout, as expected for a Proof, and this is the second style issued in 1913, with the straight and level ground. The original design was altered slightly after Mint officials realized the Type 1 with raised ground allowed the letters FIVE CENTS to wear down quickly, and vending machine owners believed the original design may be deemed a counterfeit by their machines. Thus as has been the case with several newly designed coins, changes quickly came about to appease various groups. The Buffalo Nickel design was created by James Earle Fraser, an artist from outside the Philadelphia Mint. Fraser took images of three aging chiefs and developed a composite portrait. The chiefs used were Iron Tail (Custerís opponent at Little Bighorn), Two Moons, and John Big Tree. The desired result was a Native American that could not be attributed to any one tribe. For the reverse Fraser used an American bison named Black Diamond, then living at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. PCGS 11, NGC 5. The most recent example sold for $30,000 in October 2018, and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $35,000. NONE ARE GRADED FINER, making this a superb example for any set. The struck part will show a partial strike and the unstruck area will amount to up to 30% of the overall planchet area. LOT 260 10C 1921-D PCGS MS66+ FB CAC Tied for second FINEST graded at PCGS, it is a SUPERB example of this important KEY date! While a key date in all grades, it is also a major condition rarity! Boasting a brilliant, snow white luster, surfaces are exquisite and offer virtual perfection in preservation. Not even the tiniest ticks can be found to distract the eye, and the luster is full and fresh. The devices are sharp, the central band is fully split and rounded and Liberty’s hair details are fully rendered with full, crisp definition. Essentially untoned, there is just a touch of very light iridescent, silver white tone attesting to its originality. The American economy took a short but sharp stumble in 1921 as the businesses converted back from producing war goods to peacetime activities. Farm prices fluctuated downward. These economic machinations dropped the demand for new coins so several dates saw much lower mintages than commonly seen in this era. This Denver Mint 1921 dime is destined to be a major highlight of an advanced collection and will certainly well represent this elusive issue as close to perfection as can be imagined. PCGS 28, NGC 13, CAC 9. There are a half dozen graded MS66+ FB. The last PCGS/CAC MS66+ FB sold in the 2019 FUN auction for $50,400. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $32,500.
