Prepare a write up on the trends in the teaching learning environment reflecting on the class observation by using relevant indicators . Teaching English as a secondary language is a big challenge .Like teaching other subjects we should realise that every students learns differently .A trend is a general tendency or direction towards change over the years especially .we have to focus on English as a means of communication instead of becoming a native speaker of English .Teaching in English language classes focus on language content ,outcomes and learning activities .Teacher should teach students learn differently with the sense of humor .The students should get a friendly atmosphere in the class.Learning language through literature ,reviews,poems,discussion,dictionary and analysis helps the students to improve their communication skills. So, the teacher should encourage the students to read novels, books, essays to improve their skills. Always use their experiences to teach their language. For this the teacher have to give the students some work to do. Use tongue twisters in the class to make fun filled environment. This will also boost their pronunciation and help them to learn in a fun filled way. Today the use of the internet and smartphones has increased. The learning methods have also changed. Access to knowledge has been changed. The view of an English teacher can be changed. The teacher is determined by their linguistic teaching and intercultural competence rather than being a native speaker of English. Digital literacy may encompass simple student tasks, such as creating class room presentations, or more intricate collaborative work, such as video clips creations or posting online ‘mind-maps’ using digital tools. Task- based and situated language learning and teaching are among the latest trends in English. Use of online games and games based on English language teaching has always been one of the new trends that will never fade away. Embodied learning based on the idea that learning is not just about remembering .It involves using mind and the body,collaborating,discussing and exploring.The students need to be emotionally,intellectually,physically and socially engaged. Our quality of education is measured on the basis of the proficiency of English attained by the students.To achieve the aim of effective language use teachers may be well equipped with different teaching methods and approaches .But unfortunately most of our teachers have that colonial attitude to this global language.Managing the lesson is a key factor in ensuring classes run smoothly and students are engaged in learning. We can use some articles around the world ,the range of useful blog posts written by teaching English bloggers around the world these will help the students to improve the language . A good conversation class is the holy grail for most of us. The secrets to a good speaking class are making sure we teach students to converse via range of questions ,responses,agreeing,disagreeing,building confidence from the first response to offering questions and then building small turns into longer pair work ,group work and finally whole class unprepared conversations. As a part of “TEACHER TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM “ I evaluated an English class of STD 7 from first bell which telecasted on July 9th 2020.As it is an online class,we cannot evaluate it with normal indicators.So using indicators for evaluating an orginal

class room situation are not practical in present scenario,so we can only evaluate the knowledge language presentation ,articulation and style of the teaching.In this class there are no live students while teaching. Lesson 1 “ How far is the river”,the teacher’s name was Jancy K Mathew, MSMHSS Chathinakulam Kollam.The introduction of class was very relavant.The teacher asked all the students to write notes of the previous classes and read some notes that is related to nature.The teacher included assignments in the class.The teacher recalled the ideas of the last class. Some children read the assignments of the last class. The teacher started to teach the lesson. After that the teacher went through the lesson and explained the main character of the story. In this story the main character was a 12-year boy. The teacher showed the video of the boy travelling. The teacher read the lesson and told the students to read with her. After that teacher asked some questions about this chapter. At last teacher gave some homework and asked them to send it to their teacher. Sl indicators excellent Very good average remarks no good 1 How far the class is process oriented? 2 Which method/ approach is followed in the class? Is it appropriate? 3 What are their levels to comprehend the instruction? 4 whether teacher able to conduct reading activities properly? 5 Is she able to handle the class Effectively? 6 Is there a natural introduction of the lesson? 7 Does she know the art of dramatization ? 8 Is she gentle and sympathetic? 9 Is she clear and audible? 10 Is the class attractive and lovely? 11 Does she give importance to language elements? when I took the class, I invited all the students to assemble in a circle. I walked to the centre of the circle and declared loudly that I am going to the forest and I am taking an arrow. I enacted using the arrow and moved to a student who was standing .He/she will move to the centre and will repeat

what the teacher said, teacher keeps this going around the circle until a person cannot remember what he/she is taking .That person is out of the game and the next person can complete the task. Teacher tells the students watched the video and listened to a story read and to comprehend the story. Teacher reads the story aloud using a textbook. After each paragraph, teacher pauses and asks the students to present the words and phrases they have picked up from the text. Teacher draws an outline of the spider web in board and adds words to the spider web in the board. Teacher displays a life size picture of a character on a big screen and elicits from the students, teacher divides students into four group and asks them to read the passage. After reading the passage teacher asks the students to draw the picture of the characters on the basis of their reading. They can mark the qualities in the picture. Teacher asks some questions and students elicits its responses on the notebook. Teacher gives some homework.
