KSCST – JCE BGM IPR CELL Jain College of Engineering (JCE), Belagavi Jain College of Engineering (JCE), Belagavi was started under the umbrella of Jain Group of Institutions (JGI) headquartered in Bangalore. JCE made its beginning in the year 2010 in the various disciplines of UG (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical Engineering) and PG (M. Tech in Power Systems and Construction Technology, MBA and MCA) courses. All the courses are affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and approved by AICTE, New-Delhi. The Institute has experienced, qualified and devoted faculty members from reputed institutions. The college is committed to deliver academic excellence and high standards of ethical behavior as the cornerstones of scholastic achievement and quality assurance to equip progressive India to meet not only its neighborhood needs but also the global needs of industries in every sector. Most importantly, our college is recognized as a Research Centre in Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical, E&C, E&E and Mathematics departments. The College is consistently performing well in all the academics and R & D activities. The college is involved in student –faculty centric activities in collaboration with various national level organizations namely National Digital Library of India (NDLI), Universal Human Value (UHV) Cell by AICTE, NPTEL, Institute Innovation Council (IIC)- an MOE Initiative, Kalam Program for IP Literacy and Awareness (KAPILA) etc. The initiative is to support a local vibrant innovative ecosystem, startups and IPR for both students and staff members. The college has vibrant Industry –Institute Interaction and signed MOU with HESCOM, Infinity Group, Texas Instruments, Quantum Learning, CADD Centre, ATTIS Systems, Hong Kong, TEQUED Labs, GTTC etc. The College is actively involved in the Major Consultancy works like Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India, Karnataka Residential Education Society (KREIS), Bangalore, Govt. of Karnataka etc. A few students have brought laurels to our institute by being nominated as “University Blues” in various sports fields. Our college is getting VTU ranks continuously every year in Construction Technology and Management (M.Tech). Over two hundred prospective recruiters have hired more than 4,000 students from our campuses over the last few years, in top companies( Mu-sigma, Infosys, TCS etc), which has been an outcome of a very precise placement process adopted by the Student Career Advisory and Placement Support at Jain College of Engineering. Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST): KSCST is one of the first State S&T Councils to be set up in the country established in the year 1975 at Indian Institute of Science Campus. It is an autonomous S&T organization under Department of Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. From the several decades KSCST has been pro-actively engaging itself to identify, propose and implement S&T based solutions to locale specific needs / problems in the broad areas of Water, Education, Energy, Housing, Geospatial technologies and Infrastructure etc in the State. KSCST – JCE BGM IPR CELL In co-operation with the Indian Institute of Science and several other premier R&D institutions, KSCST executes many projects and programmes aimed at improving socio-economic conditions of the people of the state. The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India advocated as model to all the states The Council through its Patent Information Centre (PIC) tirelessly conducting awareness, capacity building, basic and advance training programmes on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). KSCST has established many IP cells across Karnataka in Science and Engineering Colleges, Technical Institutions and Universities. Further by providing IP assistance in filing and Commercialisation, KSCST has creating IP ecosystem in the State. Dr. J. Shivakumar, Principal and Director, Jain College of Engineering, Belagavi and the Executive Secretary, representing KSCST, Bengaluru have arrived at this Memorandum of Understanding for mutual co-operation and collaboration on matters of mutual interest. Hence, this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The following are the terms of agreement: 1. The Name of the IP cell will be called as host institute name as KSCST-JCE BGM IP Cell 2. For the purpose of this MOU, KSCST, Bengaluru to provide the technical assistance in matters relating to Intellectual Property Rights on need basis as mutually agreed upon. 3. KSCST and JCE BGM may in joint collaboration organize conduct workshops, training programmes, research activities, and assist in further development of IPR ecosystem in the host institute. 4. If need arises, KSCST and the JCE BGM may constitute a working group to work out the practical problems of collaboration if any, between the two parties in general and to ensure proper and effective implementation of this MOU. 5. Such details agreed upon will be effective by exchange of letters by KSCST and JCE BGM and such letters shall form part of this agreement. 6. JCE BGM may reserve or allocate suitable fund for filings and other issues of IPRs thatgenerated from the host institute. 7. The host institute should send a detail report on IP activities of the IP cell for the academic year to be sent to KSCST for information and to provide needful inputs. Page | 5

KSCST – JCE BGM IPR CELL SCOPE OF THE MOU: KSCST and JCE BGM shall/may take relevant steps and measures to protect, promote and enhance research and development, which shall create scope for development of Intellectual Property and take appropriate decisions and measure in furtherance of the same. Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology-Roles andResponsibilities ❖ KSCST shall provide technical assistance in filing the registration of IPRs and prior art searches. ❖ KSCST shall associate with JCE BGM in identifying the potential IP innovations in the host institute. ❖ KSCST shall associate with JCE BGM in organizing IPR programmes ❖ There shall be no financial responsibility from the side of KSCST. Jain College of Engineering (JCE), Belagavi - Roles and Responsibilities ❖ Shall make available suitable infrastructure, place, and manpower for functioning of IP cell and also other needful amenities for the same. ❖ Shall nominate IP cell Coordinator to lead the JCE BGM -KSCST IP cell and also nominate faculty from all the other institutions coming under it to promote IPR in JCE. ❖ Should also nominate and Executive Committee consisting of members from (KSCST, Host institute (Principal/ Secretary/ Treasurers/ Vice chancellor/ Dean/ Head of the departments) IP attorney/ Patent agent &, IP cell Coordinator) and anadvisory committee member consisting of the IP cell Coordinator, KSCST, 1or 2 faculty from each department from host institute. ❖ Should allow IP cell to sensitize and involve the students, faculty, research scholars, and other members and provide awareness and training workshops on IPR periodically. ❖ Shall allow the IP Cell to identify and drive the innovation to file & commercialize the IPRs from the institutions associated with JCE BGM. ❖ Should also allocate or source fund from other agencies for filing, commercialising, Technology transfer and any IPR issues of the JCE BGM. DURATION OF THE MOU This MOU shall be in effect initially for a period of FIVE years from the date on which this MOU is signed by both the parties and may be renewed thereafter, by mutual consent. Either party may terminate the agreement by written notification sent to the proper Officer of the institution. Such notice must be received by eitherParty within six months prior of the effective termination date. Page | 6
