About Student A fourth-year BS ABA student who is now working at the Bureau of Customs. For her, the best part about working as an intern at customs is learning about the various processes involved in imports. It's not as simple as she thought. The work is exhausting since there are weeks when she has a huge amount of data to encode to the point where she just wants to stop and sleep, but if she does, she will not be able to complete her task. From March to February, she works from home because the Cathrese Macompany is dealing with an issue such as terrorist attacks and bombings in certain places. 07

t The t intern Work Experience arie Delfino \"So far, I've been enjoying it, because for the first two months I had to work from home because customs is really strict and unemployed personnel are not permitted to enter the facility. And in April, I began working on-site every Wednesday through Friday, as well as online every Monday and Tuesday. I'm pleased since I'm getting exposed to the facility, which allows me to learn more than when I'm at home.\" www.customs.gov.ph 08

MKTG 224 - ADVERTISING Customs advertises its services on several platforms. 09

10

MKTG 224 - ADVERTISING The Bureau of Customs is very restricted when it comes to people going in and out of the customs, and every transaction inside the customs is very confidential, so engaging with an influencer to promote their services is not suitable. LAUNCH A MOBILE APPLICATION BOC has developed a free mobile application to assist the general public, particularly balikbayans and OFWs. This easy-to-use tool calculates customs fees and taxes on commonly delivered commodities. Users may also track their shipments via the Balikbayan Box Tracker link in the app. The app also provides information on prohibited items, tax- exempt items, and taxable things, as well as answers to frequently asked questions about balikbayan boxes, parcels, and other related topics. 11

PROPOSE MARKETING STRATEGY \"As an intern if given the chance yes social media is one of the most fastest way to boost your business and I will suggest that the BOC should also put efforts on their social media platforms like make it active and to post continues informations to gain more followers on their social media accounts so more people will be aware on what is going on inside the BOC.\" - Cathrese Marie Delfino IWnfeobgirnaaprhsics Student Intern at BOC it is relevant to hold a webinar to freshen their knowledge and to be updated. 12

BUSINESS PROCESS MKTG 223 - DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT There are different facilities inside the customs and the student intern currently working with the customs bonded warehouse division in which the company will ask for license approval for them to be able to import in the Philippines. Companies must also submit their list of monthly raw materials that they are importing and once it's approved that is when they can proceed and if ever there is additional product that isn't on the list there are some discussions that must take and of course additional taxes for the additional product The most recent and likely important issue that Problems customs is dealing with is presumably reports of that Customs terrorist attacks and even bombings in some dealing with areas, particularly during the months of March and February. As a result, customs is more tight and secure with the facilities and the people who enter the customs. Employees are being careful, and office hours are only available until 5 p.m. 13

TRACKHOW TO PARCEL? The customs website allows customers to track the status of their packages or balikbayan boxes. They can access the BOC package and balikbayan box tracking system at parceltracking.customs.gov.ph. Customers only need to enter their tracking number to track their transaction. 14

RESPONSIBLE FOR PACKAGE DAMAGE Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pays for property damage caused by an employee's MKTG 223 - DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT improper or negligent act while working within the scope of his or her employment. However, the CBP notes in its instructions that cargo is sometimes damaged during normal inspection to verify that items are not smuggled in and that certain safety and other standards for imported goods are met. If this is the case, damages will not be reimbursed. 15

“Held at Customs” Customs holds shipments to ensure that the contents of the package and the value of the goods were correctly disclosed. And to verify that no unlawful transactions take place. \"IT'S EXHAUSTING to the point where I just want to stop and sleep but if I do, I won't be able to FINISH MY WORK.\" - Cathrese Marie Delfino 16

ABEL 221 - AIRLINE PASSAGE CURRENT SITUATION According to what the student intern recently learned, there are certain customs intelligence investigation services that analyze various counterfeit shirts, perfumes, and other things worth an estimated $250 million. And she believes that the people who possess such products may be using them for commercial purposes, and that it would be inconvenient for them to just confiscate all of the items. CONTRIBUTE TO ECONOMIC SITUATION The Bureau of Customs, being the government's second largest revenue collection agency, contributes to the Philippine economy's significant growth. It enables the national government to meet the demands of the country while also achieving long-term socioeconomic gains. 17

performance during & after the pandemic During the first semester of 2020, even before the first COVID-19 case in the Philippines is recorded, the Bureau lined-up programs to introduce new systems and to fully implement “No Contact Policy” which promotes a corruption-free regime by minimizing face-to- face transactions which undoubtedly reduced the transmission of the virus between stakeholders in these times. And now we know that viruses are still around and even employees adjusted to the new normal, it is still better to act safely and always keep your distance. 18

ADJUSTMENTS THAT HAPPENED IN THEIR OPERATION The COVID-19 pandemic has altered our lives in ways we could never have imagined. However, one thing has become abundantly clear: the enduring necessity of global trade and programs promoting the free flow of products across borders, particularly crucial goods to areas where they are most needed. ABEL 221 - AIRLINE PASSAGE HOW DID Most countries have taken steps to adapt THEY HANDLE to the new norm, and this is seen on the ground. The problem now is to reduce that THESE impact while still supporting a strong CHANGES? recovery once the situation improves, which is where Customs comes in. WHAT Even before the epidemic, the Bureau of STRATEGIES DID Customs has regularly implemented THEY USE TO modernization projects to automate Customs procedures and processes to RECOVER AND facilitate trade with little human CONTINUE interaction. OPERATIONS? 19

NEW POLICY During COVID-19, new customs and THAT CUSTOMS international trade compliance and management measures were published. HAS Some of them may last and have long- IMPLEMENTED term consequences. It is unclear how effective such new safeguards are, and how effective they will be if cross-border trade shifts as substantially and permanently as many observers seem to expect. WHAT EFFECT WILL IT HAVE ON LOGISTICS COMPANIES? Control and supervise all import and export cargoes landed or held at docks, airports, terminal facilities, including container yards and freight stations. It will take longer than usual, but it is for the best and to ensure that every cargo imported is secure, particularly for the receiver. 20

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE The Bureau of Customs, like other customs administrations, is no longer solely focused in the collection of MKTG 222 - RETAIL MANAGEMENT revenues, but is increasingly focused on border control to prevent the entry of smuggled goods, particularly illegal SUSTAIN ITS THE IND drugs, as well as BY BEING TRANSPARE the facilitation and TRANSACTION AND W DIGNITY INSIDE security of international trade, and the supervision and control of import and export cargoes. 21

VALUES UPHELD BY THE COMPANY They are committed to professionalism, integrity, and accountability. Furthermore, they are attentive to the POSITION IN demands of the DUSTRY community and industry. NT AND HONEST ON EVERY 22 WORKING ETHICALLY WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

MKTG 222 - RETAIL MANAGEMENT COMMON CHALLENGES THAT THE COMPANY FACES Misclassification of products is another typical problem, which involves declaring a good under a lesser duty category than its true duty category. In addition to the seizure of the subject shipment, if the misdeclaration, misclassification, under invoicing, or under statement of value is intentional or fraudulent, a surcharge equal to Five Hundred Percent (500%) of the duties and taxes payable shall be levied. 23

GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROPOSE STRATEGIES I would propose paperless trading, in which companies do not need to submit a large amount of paper for each monthly importation and it is simple to store. 24

MKTG 221 - INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND TRADE ROLE OF CUSTOMS IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE Customs performs an essential monitoring role in the international arena by checking borders for contraband, smuggling, and other non-tax illegal activities. However, they could also be tax-related. RESTRICTED PRODUCTS IN THE PHILIPPINES Philippine law restricts the importation of certain goods for reasons of national security, environmental and public health protection, and order and morality, in addition to complying with international treaties and obligations. • Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. • Pornographic and obscene material. • Hazardous waste etc. 25

THATSMENUTGEGRLETDHGEOCOODUSNTRY 26

MKTG 221 - INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND TRADE WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO CONTROL THE COUNTRY'S IMPORT AND EXPORT OF GOODS? Because not all countries have the resources and expertise to create specific commodities and services, exports and imports are critical for the development and growth of national economies. Nonetheless, in order to protect their domestic industries, countries impose trade barriers such as tariffs and import restrictions. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY CUSTOMS IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE Labeling concerns involving a certificate of origin, weight, ingredients, marks, and so on are the most prevalent connected problems in importing or exporting national trades. The exporter provided insufficient documentation and issues regarding the receiving country's import or packing rules. 27
