sandy honig I took a trip to a Brooklyn beach with Tara, Kenneth Edwards, Metin Fejzula, Derek Murdock, JackieGrossbard, Jessie Roth, and Jess Obert. I planned this trip after seeing a fellow classmate’s senior thesis projecton this beach and its history as a dump. The shores are littered with objects, boats, and every color of glass. As an environmentalist, I observed this with dismay, but I rejoiced in nature’s reclamation of the site. As aphotographer and collector (hoarder might be a better word), I was overwhelmed with the excitement of findingthese treasures. There were typewriters, shoes, bottles, bricks, even boats, sunken deep in the sand. 104

Sometimes getting out of the city is refreshing. I stayed atschool for spring break, giving me the time to explore areasof Brooklyn. I took the train to Pratt to meet up with TaraNiami, Laurence Philomène Olivier, and Arabelle Sicardi. Afterspending some time in Tara’s room, we went to Williamsburgto go thrifting and meet up with Logan. The weather wasunbelievably warm, and the flowers were blooming. 108

A few weeks later, I had the opportunity to work on a student film, bothas a producer and on-set photographer. I had never worked on a film setbefore, and I really enjoyed both learning the technical terms used on set,the way a shoot runs, and the camaraderie that the crew forms. Now, things I’m looking forward to: a semester-long project I’ve pouredmy heart into, summer in the city, warm weather, a possible trip to Europe.
