What Next?.. Culture Change Project The UL Green Campus committee was awarded a HEAI sustainability grant in August 2018 for Education in Sustainability, and in turn some of the monies from this grant was offered by the committee to our society to develop a major project if one could be suggested. Over the course of two semesters, we started gathering thoughts and ideas during our weekly society meetings, with everyone sharing various thoughts and ideas. One member of the society made the point that while UL is in fact ranked one of the Greenest and most sustainable campuses in the world, that not many people know this, or become
aware of this as they pass through the campus. This observation led to the discussion that if we encouraged sustainability in various aspects of the campus perhaps we could not only advertise how green the university is, but how sustainability is the norm, in turn encouraging students and staff to live more sustainable lives themselves. After developing this idea with the society over another few meetings an outline plan was agreed: -An internal totem which would be displayed in prominent locations around the corridors and open spaces of buildings on campus, which would let students interact with it and advertise environmental related messages etc.
-Outdoor Signage: which would be 25th Greenest displayed on the most prominent University In building facades/glass panels. The message displayed would be The World clear, powerful, interchangeable and could be seen day and night. Irelands best and greenest library -Green Sustainable Wolfie (our UL mascot): which could help achieve the image of sustainability, heighten the societys messages and events, and also promote any other sustainable/environmental related topics. -Urban Coop: Which would essentially sell groceries that would be less harmful to you and the environment.
