Membedakan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan beberapa teks prosedur lisan dan tulis dengan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait manual penggunaan teknologi dan kiat-kiat (tips), pendek dan sederhana, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya 4.6. DEFINITION • Procedure text is a kind of text that tell about how to make or how to do something. It contains “ how to “ instructions.

GENERIC STRUCTURE a. Goal ( title ) : the purpose of the procedure b. Materials or ingredients: things are needed c. Steps or directions : steps in the method are written clearly and concisely in a logical sequence. They are numbered.

SOCIAL FUNCTION • The purpose of procedure text is to describe how something is made or done through a sequence of steps.

LANGUAGE FEATURES a. Use imperative sentences and imperatives followed by commands. E.g. combine the flour, etc. Sometime, we use first conditional with imperative to show instructions or suggestion. Patten : If claue, imperative sentence or Imperative sentence + if clause b. Use subject spesific vocabulary : vegetable, flour, oil, etc. c. Use command verb : add, put, pour, heat, etc. d. Use sequences : first, second, then, after that, next, finally to show the chrononlogy. e. Use technical vocabulary : bake, grill, microwave, grams, saucepan, etc.

TYPE OF PROCEDURE TEXT • Food recipes, manuals, rules, directions and instruction.

SAMPLE OF PROCEDURE TEXT • Ladies and Gentlemen, in case of emergency, take the life jacket which is located under your seat. 1. Put the life jacket over your head and then fasten the jacket tapes around you’re your waist. 2. Do not inflate the jacket until you left the aircraft. The jacket will be automatically inflated by pulling a cord, but if not, you can blow into the chip to inflate it. 3. A light is attached to the jacket for attracting attention. The life jacket should be removed only in case of emergency. 4. The use of TV set, AM and FM radios and radio cassettes recorders, walkman and any mobile phones are prohibited on board as they interfere the communication and navigational system.
