curatorNicolette TeoNicolette Teo (b.1994) is an artist/curator who has received a BA(Hons) Fine Artsin LASALLE in 2017. Her work delves into finding ways to deal with problems orissues. Mainly stemming from anxiety and the state of worrying, she create situa-tions and scenarios to generate instances of calmness. Her practice looks to locateand create different methods of coping with problematic scenarios and emotionalimbalances. It gives idiosyncratic yet practical methods of dealing with problems ofuncertainty. She is currently also one of the assistant curators working with TCC andLASALLE as part of their partnership to curate artworks for TCC cafes nationwide.
Breaking WavesA curatorial open call to address the intersection between art and mentalhealth. It demands the adoption of a discerning and sophisticated approach,towards a subject long considered ‘taboo.’ It sees art as a healing tool –allowing artists to engage with inner conflict, advocate for open and tolerantmindsets, highlight sensitive issues and generate collective reflection andaction.The winning proposals were selected by an international jury consisting ofAdriel Luis (Curator of Emerging and Digital Media at the Smithsonian AsianPacific American Center); Florence Ostende (Curator at the Barbican, London);Eriko Kimura (Curator from the Yokohama Museum of Art); Victor Wang(Independent curator, London) and Khairuddin Hori (Curatorial Director,Chan+Hori Contemporary/DISINI Festival).
The Deepest BlueWe have always sought to make sense of life, and art lends itself to an incrediblyrich expression. The Deepest Blue unfurls this tendency through examining wateras a metaphorical articulation for struggles with insecurities or mental health. FourSingapore-based artists, Amanda Tan (Empyreal), Renée Ting, Chloë Manassehand Tan Yang Er (Yang), will be showcasing works that respond to the stories of fourhistorical women, and incorporating their own. This will be a safe space to explorethe intricate human experience, with boundless opportunities for interpretation, con-testation and conversation. Come along, and be a part of this effervescent dialogue.
DISINIA curated festival consisting of a series of events, art exhibitions, engagementswith unconventional ideas, recollections and sharing of history and heritage.Spurred by its locale, DISINI is also a ground-up initiative that borrows itsname from the Malay adverb ‘di sini’, meaning ‘over here’. It invites artists,culture makers and the public to activate thoughts embedded by landscapessurrounding Gillman Barracks, its precinct of residence.
