Gafney from A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church, Year A; The first paragraph of UBC’s Land Acknowledgement was written by and used with permission from the Native American Indigenous Studies program at the University of Texas, and our commitments were written with the guidance of Elder Maria Rocha with the Indigenous Cultures Institute. Call to Worship from Enfleshed.com; “My Soul Rejoices in the Lord,” by Carolyn Winfrey Gilette. Land Acknowledgment We would like to acknowledge that we are meeting on the Indigenous lands of Turtle Island, the ancestral name for what now is called North America. Moreover, we would like to acknowledge the Alabama-Coushatta, Caddo, Carrizo/Comecrudo, Coahuiltecan, Comanche, Kickapoo, Lipan Apache, Tonkawa and Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, and all the American Indian and Indigenous Peoples and communities who have been or have become a part of these lands and territories in Texas. In recognition of the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples in Central Texas and globally, our community of faith makes the following commitments: To be aware of the history of Indigenous people on this land, both the harm that was done in the past and the repercussions of that harm that continue to affect our Indigenous neighbors. To learn from the Indigenous perspective on “the natural way” in order to deepen our connection with and care for our bodies, our communities, and the land. To actively learn from and offer material support to Native-led groups in our area. To stand in solidarity with and amplify the voices of our Native neighbors as they seek systemic change through economic, social, and legal justice. Rev. Natalie Webb (she/her) Rev. Even if you didn’t bring a meal, make sure to grab a plate! We will continue our fellowship after worship with good food and great conversations. Micah 6 Food Drive Due to changing conditions in the way Micah 6 is able to procure food from sources such as the Capital Area Food Bank, local supermarkets, and other local non-profits, the Micah 6 Food Pantry is low on vital staples with long shelf life. UBC as a founding member of Micah 6 has a long history of monetary and volunteer support. Along with other supporting churches in our area, we have been asked to conduct a food drive to help restock the Food Pantry. The major way we can help is by providing food by case such as canned goods of vegetables, fruit, and canned meat such as tuna and chicken. The reason the Food Pantry is asking for cases rather than just miscellaneous canned items is that stocking goes much quicker with their limited number of volunteer workers. However, assorted canned goods are always welcome. Please bring canned goods to the north side of the Fellowship Hall and members of the Social Justice Committee will deliver them to the Micah 6 Food Pantry located at United Presbyterian Church. Requested canned items are green beans, corn, spinach or other canned greens, chili, soup, beans, spam, canned chicken, boxed macaroni and cheese, and boxed pasta or rice. Thank you for your generous support of this important mission. UniversityBaptistChurch | 2130 Guadalupe, Austin, TX 78705 | www.UBCAustin.org
