2015 Lake Forest Showhouse & GardensShowhouse Honorary Chair Alessandra Branca Generously sponsored by “Don’t be afraid to be bold,” says Alessandra Branca. It’s a bit of advice the designer seems destined to pass on, whether she’s upholstering a brilliant red wall or diving deep into the intricacies of fine porcelain manufacturing. Born in Rome, she has nurtured her successful design firm and her family in Chicago, fusing a grounded, Midwestern practicality with her vibrant European sensibility. For Branca, those influences are simply where it all begins. “Discipline, effort and passion must exist in everything,” she says. Branca finds constant inspiration in the world around her and is never afraid to Instagram that inspiration to share with her 15K+ (and growing) followers. Accolades, including ELLE DÉCOR’s A-List year after year and House Beautiful’s Master Class continue to come her way, as do a host of new projects that range from interiors for residences as well as commercial projects to a collection of fabric, furniture, lighting, leathers and rugs for a global clientele. She is also at work on her next book, slated for publication in 2016. In short, she’s a creative force in motion - which is just how she likes it. “The best page in my book,” she says, “is the first one, the empty page. It’s about where we’re going next.” “New Classic Interiors” by Alessandra Branca with Christine Pittel In this book, the Chicago-based designer generously reveals her step-by-step creative process, offering invaluable guidance to anyone who wants a home that is both gorgeous and practical. Beginning with her own apartment in Rome and interweaving insights drawn from several other prominent projects, she shows how she assesses each space’s form and function, selects foundation elements, chooses furniture and lighting, and finally, incorporates decorative elements that reflect the owner’s personality. Illustrated with 200 lush photographs, the book offers a welcome introduction to Branca’s enchanting and livable interiors. 9

Infant Welfare Society of Chicago Infant Welfare Society . . . 2015 Initiatives The Infant Welfare Society of Chicago’s CHAT Program employs a multi- disciplinary team approach to child development and features behavioral health counseling, vision therapy, support and socialization skills groups, speech therapy, occupational therapy and psychiatry for children who show developmental delays in the 3-6 age group. Each child in the project is initially screened in all areas of development to identify potential areas of concern. They then receive a more comprehensive assessment which addresses each child’s specific challenges in social-emotional, speech and language, and sensorial development. After the initial screening, each child receives a customized treatment plan and ongoing referral support to internal and external providers and specialists. All services are offered in Spanish and English by bi-lingual providers. EAT HEALTHY! Childhood obestity is one of the most easily preventable health issues faced by our patients. We are taking active steps to address obesity, especially in COMER SANO! children, because we know it goes a long way toward preventing a lifetime of related illnesses - for example, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. PROJECT The new “Eat Healthy!Comer Sano! Project” features: n Sessions devoted to understanding obesity, food portioning, shopping and meal planning, the importance of physical activity, and understanding food labels. n A climate of collaboration to enhance patient motivation. n Tailored approaches for community-based settings and IWS’ Latino target population. n Follow-up review and future appointments to assess progress. We are glad to see the impact this new program is making on the healthy eating of our young patients and their families!22
