Swim General Swim Information • Afternoon diving lessons are available. Please call Activities Desk to set up a lesson. • The Activities Desk carries goggles, watertight pants (swim diapers), sunscreen, bathing suits, team swimsuits, and more. We will be happy to special order additional items as well. • A $10 guest fee (includes towel) is charged to the member’s account for each guest who enters the pool area. Guests must be accompanied by a member. After 4:00 p.m., the guest fee is $5.• All children three years and under (no exceptions) are required towear potty-proof watertight pants. This policy is non-negotiable and istaken very seriously, as it is in the best interest of the overall membership.Potty-proof watertight plastic pants are available for purchase at theActivities Desk and poolside check-in. Violation of this policy may result in amonetary penalty. 3

Whether for fun, fitness or Swim Team readiness, your child will benefit fromthe workouts. Swim Team is just around the corner, and the swim coaches have some funnew activities to offer. Swim TeamThe Barracudas will once again be competing in the Orange County Summer SwimLeague! We look forward to an organized season full of new and exciting events andmemories! All the teams participating in the league are very eager to start the season andcompete with great sportsmanship.The 2017 season is eight weeks long, and begins on June 5, concluding on July 27. Theleague is open to swimmers ages 4 to 16 (age as of June 5, 2017). Registration fees includefour weekly practices, one swim team cap, all swim meets, ribbons, and trophies. Ourseason will consist of four dual meets, and a championship meet. Swimmers will bepermitted to swim a maximum of three individual events or three individual and one relayper meet. Meets will be held on Thursdays. All meets will be run by a meet manager, andall swimmers will be seeded in their individual events by Coach Brick prior to the swim meet.Team participation is limited to Big Canyon Country Club members' children.Days Monday through ThursdayDates June 5 to July 27Fees $330 per swimmer if received by May 1 $350 per swimmer if received after May 1PracticesAges 4 to 6 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Novice: Stroke emphasisAges 7 to 9 4:30 to 5:25 p.m. Intermediate: Must be able to swim 25 yards under 60 seconds Elite: Must swim all four strokes andAges 10 to 16 5:30 to 6:25 p.m. have Coach approval• Mondays and Wednesdays are stroke technique.• Tuesdays are conditioning and diving practice.• Thursdays are Swim Meets.Swim Meet Schedule 5Meets are held on Thursdays. At themeeting, you will receive a parenthandbook that will go over the season andlet you know all the policies and procedures as wellas a detailed swim meet schedule. You areencouraged to purchase your swim suits at themeeting to ensure that they will arrive in time for the firstmeet. Sample sizes can be found at the Activities Desklocated in the Recreation Center.

Swim Team Policies & ProceduresUniformsSwim Team logoed suits are required for meets (both home and away). Participants arerequired to wear goggles and team cap at every practice. Suits will be available forpurchase at the Activities Desk. We offer Speedo racing suits for girls and the longer racingsuits (Jammers) for boys. Last year’s suit may be worn instead of purchasing a new suit.Please order your suit by May 24 to guarantee delivery by the first swim meet.VolunteeringParents are asked to volunteer a minimum of once during the season to receive a one-timecredit of $50 per family at the end of the season. Volunteering consists of timing for homeand away meets. A sign-up sheet will be at the Swim Team orientation meeting as well asat the Activities Desk. Please check in and out with Coach Brick at the meets to ensurethat we have a record of you volunteering. If you choose not to volunteer, then you willnot receive any credit back at the end of the season.Ribbons and TrophiesRibbons will be awarded 1st to 12th place per event, per age group. Remaining swimmerswill earn participant ribbons. Places will be based strictly on times. Trophies will bepresented to all Swim Team members who have contributed to our team. Medals will beawarded to record breakers. Swimmers must attend at least half of the practices to beeligible for Outstanding Swimmer’s Award.RegistrationRegistration forms are available online and at the Activities Desk. Swim LessonsSwim lesson sessions are offered as private, semi-private or a group. Each lesson is led byan experienced swim instructor who will promote skill enhancement and enjoyment ofswimming. We recommend eight lessons in two weeks for best continuity. Lessons areoffered through a package or on a daily or weekly basis. Only the children andgrandchildren of members may take private lessons. Guests may take a semi-private orgroup lesson with members’ children. Members will be billed for their guest’s lessons andmust accompany their guest at all times. Water Safety Tips for TotsThis new program focuses on water safety tips for toddlers. It is a great way to introduceyour younger child to the water and teach them essential safety skills they will need to knowto become confident, strong swimmers. Ross is recognized worldwide for histeaching ability at every stage of the game. Hiseasygoing manner and years of experience are sure toimprove your game, regardless of your playing level oraspirations. He is still an active player and is one of the topage forty-five and over performers in the world. Ross beginshis 35th year as Big Canyon.10

Junior Golf Summer ActivitiesWe are happy to have tons of great programming and experienced staff to add to ourJunior Golf program offerings this year. Big Canyon is the place to get your child orgrandchild to the tee! From Tiny Tees to Team Play, we have it all covered. Expect bigfun and a superb learning environment at every corner. Young golfers progress through the levels as their skills increase.Drive, Chip & Putt - Saturdays, April 1 to May 27For children aged 7 to 15, this series of clinics focuses on the three building blocks ofgolf: driving, chipping, and putting. Letti Tafoya Recreation CoordinatorBig Canyon’s incredibly popular Kid Camp is back with an excitingnew summer camp program for children 4 to 10 years of age. Yourchild, grandchild, or guest may attend daily, or the entire eight-weekprogram which on begins on June 19 and wraps up on August 11(Please note there is no Kid Camp on Tuesday, July 4). Kid Camp isdivided into three age groups. Each group features fun recreationalactivities and innovative crafts tailored to their age and skill level.Each child is ensured individual attention with a one-to-seveninstructor to child ratio. Kid Camp Golf & Kid Camp TennisGolfJoin our golf professional staff for another fun and exciting year of Kid Camp golf. Your child inAdventurers and Pioneers groups will enjoy learning basic golf etiquette and golf safety alongwith the basics of putting, chipping, and full swing. They will play various fun golf-related gamesand contests! If your child has their own set of clubs, we encourage them to bring them tocamp each day they golf. This will allow them to have more time to participate. Closed-toedshoes must be worn. Kid Camp golf begins the week of July 3.AdventurersWednesdays and Fridays, 9:40 to 10:30 a.m.PioneersTuesdays and Thursdays, 9:40 to 10:30 a.m.If your child is interested in a more structured one-on-one lesson, please refer to the Junior GolfProgram on page 11. Kid Camp PoliciesRegistrationCampers must be a minimum of four years old as of June 19, 2017. Members’ childrenreceive the first opportunity to sign up for Kid Camp. Reservation forms will be taken on afirst-come, first-served basis the day registration opens and will be entered in the order theyare received. (Both the Registration and Medical Authorization Forms are needed tocomplete the application). Camp registration forms will be accepted no earlier than thefollowing dates:• Members’ Children Only - April 10• Members’ Grandchildren - May 1• Members’ Guests - May 15 Registration forms will be accepted in person at the Activities Desk in the Recreation Centeror via email to Kid Camp Recreation Coordinator Letti Tafoya at [email protected] the dates listed above. Registration will not be accepted over the phone. If thecamp is full, you will be placed on a waitlist. If space becomes available, Letti will emailyou and provide a 24-hour response time before moving to the next member on the list.Please call the Activities Desk at (949) 706-5918 for any additional information.Guest Policy• Registrations forms must be turned in by the member.• The member will be billed and is responsible for all charges incurred by the guest. The guest must be accompanied by the sponsoring member’s child in the same program (i.e., Explorers, Adventurers, and Pioneers), each day.• All Information regarding camp date availability will be sent to the member, and it is the member’s responsibility to inform their guest of the dates they can attend.• The sponsoring member assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the guest. At the end of camp there is a 10-minute grace period to pick up children.• If guests would like to use the pool, the member must be present and have signed them in at the pool as their guest for that day.WaitlistMember’s children have first priority on the waitlist, followed by member’s grandchildren,and next, member’s guests. Once a call has been made to a member on the waitlist, themember has 24 hours to return the call before we contact the next family on the waitlist. 14

and Procedures Cancellation Policy • Cancellations made within 72 hours of the reserved camp date will be billed the full camp price. • Rescheduling camp dates 72 hours or more prior to the reserved camp date will be subject to a 25% charge of the reserved camp date. • Rescheduling within 72 hours of the reserved camp date will be charged the full camp price. • All cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellation forms can be found at the Activities Desk, website, or can be emailed to you. Sign in/out A parent or legal guardian must sign the camper in and out of camp each day. If this person cannot sign the child in or out, we must be provided with the name(s) of those persons who are authorized to pick up the child. Attire Closed-toed shoes must be worn while at Kid Camp. Children will swim every day; please pack a swimsuit as well. Late Pick-Up An extra charge of $10 will be assessed for late pick-ups in 15-minute increments after the conclusion of camp. Parents who are late picking up their child more than three times may have their children’s privilege to attend our summer camp revoked. Medical Authorization Form This form must be filled out and on record with the Activities Desk for each child to complete the reservation process. Illness For the protection of all the children in Kid Camp, please keep your child home if symptoms of illness are present, if your child has a fever or has had one in the last 24 hours, or has symptoms of a communicable disease. 15

Week 1 - Fun & FitnessEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Roll with It – June 19Exercise and fun rolled into one at the bubble roller raceway and a bounce house.Karate – June 20Sensei Dave, a third-degree black belt, will be joining Kid Camp to demonstrate his secretpower along with leading Samurai training for the campers.Zumba – June 21Campers will join one of Big Canyon’s personal trainers for a Zumba group exercise class,learning stretches and also enjoy pool activities with coach Brick.Sports and More – June 22There is no I in Team! Campers will participate in team-based physical activity. Camperswill play rotations of basketball, pickleball, and dodgeball.Fun in the Sun – June 23Camp will get a new look with the help of all our camper’s creativity. Jumbo pinwheels, ajumbo picture puzzle and planting flowers in the herb garden with our LandscaperSupervisor Loreé. 16

Week 2 - DiscoverEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Ready, Set, Hunt – June 26Come on a scavenger hunt around Big Canyon’s greens. Campers will each receive theirown science journals to track what they find.Super Cool – June 27Campers will learn the three stages of matter with a “cool” demonstration showcasingliquid nitrogen by our friends from the Discovery Cube.Watts Current – June 28Observe the power of electricity with a hair-raising presentation from the Discovery Cubeusing a Tesla coil and electrostatic generator.Bubbleology – June 29Be amazed at the science behind bubbles. Investigate with a bubbleologist the propertiesof bubbles, their colors and shapes, and what keeps them popping.Take a Look Around – June 30Master the use of binoculars. Campers will make their own pair of working binoculars andtake a field journey observing Big Canyon. 17

Week 3 - America the GreatEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors. Independence Day Party! – July 3 Join us as we celebrate our country’s independence with a balloon artist, a face painter, and decorating our own patriotic hats. Campers will be enjoying snow cones and popcorn after lunch. No Camp – July 4 Cartoon Campers – July 5 Come learn the techniques of drawing your favorite cartoon characters from a professional cartoon artist. All Hands In – July 6 Campers will dip a hand into liquid wax to create a mold of their very own to take home. Lego Mania – July 7 Joining camp will be a professional Lego wrangler with thousands of Legos, Duplos, and ramps. Campers will have the freedom to create and expand their minds. 18

Week 4 - ImaginationEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Soaring over Big Canyon - July 10A camper favorite… an obstacle course and a jumper along with games and our own handmade airplanes out on the green.Illusions – July 11Be amazed by a magic production and learn the keys of deception.Bubble Play – July 12Campers will get hands on experience with all types of bubbles with a bubbleologist toteach them the magic of bubbles.The Lost Artifacts – July 13Kids will be battling snakes, lava pits, and more while helping Indiana Jones in finding his lostartifacts.Laser Tag – July 14A camper favorite game of fast paced outdoor laser tag. Closed-toes shoes must be wornplease. 19

Week 5 - CreateEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Arrr Matey – July 17A salty pirate ship docks at Big Canyon to treat the kids with pirate themed fun out on thegreen.Story Time - July 18Camp counselors will host a story time featuring their favorite books followed by our ownbuild a bear workshop.Jedi Training – July 19May the force be with Kid Camp as it is transformed into a Jedi training camp. The youngJedi trainees will help their heroes defeat the dark side in a light saber battle.Paint It – July 20Campers will become artists and paint their own masterpiece on a canvas frame to takehome.Trick-or-Treat – July 21Campers, please wear your costumes for a trick-or-treat field trip around the Club. 20

Week 6 - Lights, Cameras, Action! Every morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon camp counselors. Sports Shoot Out – July 24 Campers will be out on the grass and shoot hoops, make goals, and throw passes just like the famous athletes. The Little Mini Show – July 25 Action! Campers will get into groups and make up a skit about camp and perform it for all at the end of the day. Sing and Dance – July 26 Do-Re-Mi! Campers will have the opportunity to sing karaoke style and learn new dance moves. Puppet Show – July 27 Come have a blast with this fun-filled puppet show. The Colors of the Wind – July 28 Color the wind with a variety of wind crafts followed by a classic Disney movie and snacks. 21

Week 7 - NatureEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Catch ‘em! – July 31It’s a quest around the golf course to find bugs to collect in our very own bug jars.Lizard Wizard – August 1Here is your chance to see the fascinating world of reptiles. Week 8 - Summer Camp Wrap UpEvery morning campers will warm up with yoga poses led by our Big Canyon campcounselors.Aloha Campers – August 7Say hello and goodbye with a dual lane dry slide out along with a jumper and a hula hoopcontest. Snow cones for an afternoon treat will round out the day.Bubble Show – August 8A bubbleologist will create a variety of amazing bubbles for the campers. Campers willlearn the science behind these shimmering waves of soap film.Water Wars – August 9Get ready for a water balloon battle. Little campers will get their chance before lunch tobattle the bigger campers with the help of the counselors.
