Argument about the importance of English in maritime industries English is an international language, English in the maritime industry is very important and needed especially for seafarers and port agents. English as a unifying language makes it easier for seafarers from different countries with different languages to communicate.

In line with the advancement of the shipping industry, it is increasingly importand for seafarers to master English. The shipping industry is not tied to any particular country or region, it’s international. Therefore, there were people from different nationalities in one ship. Since English is a universal language, it is the only way seafarers can communicate effectively with each other.

Smooth communication is needed to maintain the safety of ships, crew and shipping lanes as well as smooth shipping business. Misconceptions in the shipping world can lead to accidents and a lack of business efficiency. Miscommunication is caused by a lack of communication skills. The bad impact of the miscommunication does not only occur on ships, but can also involve people on land.

Self competence is very important in port management and administration. In addition to having to understand in English, works skills are also very influential on the smoothness of activities in the port, such us in managing the entry and exit of ships at the port.

Human resources greatly determine the success of the company’s activities. In achieving the company’s goals, adequate competence of human resources is needed in encouraging employee performance. Employees as the most important resources needed by the company are expected to be people who are able to provide their energy, talents, abilities, creativity, and efforts for the advancement of the company.

The majority of marine accidents and obstacles while completing work occur due to human error and one can attribute a large number of these marine accidents to poor communication and inadequate skills. Miscommunication and lack of skills can put the life of another seafarer in danger and can even jeopardize the integrity of the ship and damage the reputation of the company.

In developing a career what needs to be done is to fix yourself starting from small things with discipline and responsibility.
