Bordered by Myanmar and Laos, characterized by forested mountains - lower extremities of Himalayan foothills - and fertile river valleys, northern Thailand encompasses part of the fabled Golden Triangle. Diverse elements, including crisp mountain scenery, exotic hilltribes, forests worked by elephants, colorful festivals, invigorating coolseason weather, ancient cities, exquisite northern Thai and Burmese-styletemples, and friendly people contribute to northern Thailand's enduringcharm.

Northern Region: Mountains, forestsand fertile valleys.

North-Eastern Region: A high, semi-arid plateau used mainly for cattle andgrowing crops such as rice and maize. Known by Thais as I-San, the sprawling Northeast Plateau is bordered to the north and east by the Mekong River and Laos, and to the south largely by Kampuchea (Cambodia).

The Northeast is a distinctive region of forested mountains, national parks and rollingfarmland as well as its colourful inhabitants who speak their own melodious dialect, have a delicious highly spiced cuisine, and a hospitable, vibrant folk culture

I-san is noted as the center of an age-old civilization dating back to pre-historic time Ban Chiang village in Udon Thani, where remains of pre-historic skeletons and tools have been discovered, serves as concreteevidence of a Bronze Age civilization flourishing 5,000 to 7,000 yearsago.

Central Region:located in a fertile basin where the main activity is rice farming and the area is regarded as the rice bowl of our country. Besides being the kingdom's most fertile land for rice growing, theCentral region is also famous for its tourist attractions which focus on naturalresources and ancient historic remains.

Trips to thick forests, high waterfalls, caves and beaches are easilycombined with visits to ancient ruined temples or palaces andhistorical places.
