I am a native of our Garfield County Fairgrounds beautiful valley, born in Glenwood Springs, spending my first seven years in New Castle followed by ten years in Rifle.North Hall and Outdoor Arena (Horses), I thoroughly enjoy our western heritage…I have been riding 8 am – 1 pm horses since I was seven years old, I have participated in 4H for nine years showing both horses and pigs. 7Kylie Dice - PrincessHi! My name is Kylie Dice, I am honored to serve as your2018 Garfield County Fair & Rodeo Princess. I am 15 yearsold and a freshman attending Coal Ridge High School. I amproud of my families’ longtime local heritage which goesback five generations on the Dice side and four generationson the Rider side of my family. Participating in Royalty hasbecome a family tradition, two of my aunts enjoyed servingas Garfield County Fair & Rodeo Queens in years past, andmy mother was a Grand Valley Queen and attendant yearsago. I am proud to follow in their footsteps.As far back as I can remember I have been on a horse. Ihave always loved horses and always will. I have an amazinghorse named “Sweety” who partners with me in our localGymkhanas and also performs in Shire Shows at fairs withme. John’s Mom, Emmy Neil, was a staple at the Garfield County Fair and for years and staffed the exhibit hall. John has continued this tradition by supporting the 4-H and FFA members of the valley. The morals and values learned by the members of these organizations are important not only to John, but the community. 9in memoriam Joe Dice Joe Dice (1929-2018) Age 88, died on March 30, 2018 at home following a long illness. Joe will be remembered as a rancher, farmer, family historian and storyteller who loved good horses and his cows. Through the years he was involved in Custom Farming, Cattle Buying, Ranch Management, Sale Barn Management, Dice Trucking, and his little cow herd. He was a member of Colorado Farm Bureau, serving as a State Director, and the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association and well as the local Holy Cross Cattlemen’s Association. As we remember his relationship with the Garfield County Fair and Rodeo, Joe was strongly involved with the 4-H and FFA livestock programs. He was especially supportive and involved in the Jr. Livestock Sale. He assisted with sales, buy backs, and provided free transportation of marked animals to their final destination. His commitment to the success of the youth in these programs was important to him and his family. Joe’s family and friends thank you for honoring his commitment to the youth of Garfield County and their success in 4-H and FFA programs. Take time to participate and support the youth in the livestock programs. Lex Bumgardner Lex Bumgardner was born and raised in western Garfield County and lived there till his final days. Lex ranched for the last 25 plus years on Parachute Creek, on the family homestead for the majority of that time. Lex Bumgardner’s family homesteaded on Parachute Creek in the late 1890’s, their homestead has been there ever since. Lex rode in the Garfield County Rodeo in his younger years, and brought his kids to ride in the Jr. Rodeo in the late 70’s and early 80’s keeping the tradition alive for his hometown. In his later years Lex provided calves to his grandchildren to show at the Garfield County Fair & Rodeo. Lex enjoyed a life deeply rooted in the rich western heritage of Garfield County.
