Networking Components Network Card A network interface card (NIC) is a hardware component without which a computer cannot be connected over a network. It is a circuit board installed in a computer that provides a dedicated network connection to the computer. It is also called network interface controller, network adapter or LAN adapter. Networking Cable Networking cables are networking hardware used to connect one network device to other network devices or to connect two or more computers to share printers, scanners etc. Modem MODEM stands for Modulator/ DEModulator. It is a hardware device that enables a computer to send and receive information over telephone lines by converting the digital data used by your computer into an analog signal used on telephone lines and the converting back once received on the other end.
Hub and Switches Hub and Switch are the network connecting devices, both help to connect various devices. Hub works at the physical layer and transmits the signal to the port. Switch route the information and send it over the network. Router A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the traffic directing functions on the Internet. Data sent through the internet, such as a web page or email, is in the form of data packets
