Coaching – Why is it Important? Building Relationships & Having Fresh Conversations • Coaching exercises are an opportunity to get to know your teammates and to practice using the People Side versus the Task Side of Decision-Making Styles. • Coaching helps you build momentum with “Fresh Conversations” about Safe Choice. It helps with Understanding the New Knowledge • To practice and apply Safe Choice, we need a firm understanding of the concepts. A lot of new information was introduced on the Safe Choice Training Day. • Coaching is an opportunity to ask questions about the concepts and techniques. • Coaches help refresh on the concepts and relate them to the worksite, our daily tasks, and our Personal Safety Action Plans. Executing your Personal Safety Action Plans Leveraging our Existing Safety Tools • Thinking and working differently takes practice. • Goals help us practice applying the concepts in specific ways in the field and allow us to measure our progress. • Coaches offer advice and encouragement on achieving our Personal Safety Action Plans and using our Existing Safety Tools more effectively. 162
