The Half-BackDelivery Issue 2 - 24/10/17 1st August 2017Your Football Manager Fix - A new era Leadership void ashalf-back settles at holker streethalf-back is a month into his tenure now at home townbarrow afc’s holker street and is getting to know thesquad. pre-season is done and the squad is settling, with a big leadership void.
Lost leaders & prom Half-Back was stepping into the role on the back of a good season the previous year for Barrow, but a rocky start under former managers Micky Moore and Paul Cox saw the club left in disaray. A lack of leaders in the squad can be seen from the graphic above and this was something Half- Back was keen to address to ensure resiliance is a key attribute of the team for when times get tough. The bigger personalties in the club are Club Captain and experienced pro Asa Hall and long standing Alex-Ray Harvey which Half-Back has high- lighted as a weak point considering Harvey isn’t considered as integral in his plans. The first addition to the squad Half-Back has made is adding Josh Simpson in from Plymouth. the 30 year old is a Football league experienced player who made 25 appearanes for Plymouth last year. The only other addition to the squad that is in the pipeline is another Football League experienced pro in the shape of left midfielder Rob Taylor. Rob won’t bring huge leadership traits but Half-Back hopes the experience of Taylor will be a big help.Page 2
mising performances Barrow got off to a promising start under the reigns of of Half-Back and will be hoping to continue this into the first part of the season. They began with a closed doors game against the Under 18’s for Half-Back to evaluate the squad and all his potential options. A solid 1-0 win for the seniors was the final outcome, one we’re sure Half-Back would like to have improved but a clean sheet is a positive. A relatively unknown teamin Lothian Thistle were the next test away from home and another 1-0 vicotry was taken from the game. The third game is the game manyperceived as the toughest of the pre-sea- son with a game against Newcastle Under 23’s. A very even game which could of gone either way but unfortunately Half Back’s men fell on the wrong- side of a 1-0 win where they conceded their first goal and also defeat. A fourth game saw Barrow take the short trip down the M6 to local rivals Lancaster City of the Northern League. Half-Back was determined to get a good win here and the boy’s delivered with a solid 4-0 win with Adi Yussuf netting all 4 goals. Finally Barrow were welcoming current National League Champions Lin- coln City who had just made the step up to the Football League. It was a good yard stick for how the team had developed. A 1-1 draw was a fair re- sult and could of easily have gone either way. A promising performance for Barrow AFC and one they hope they will carry into the season. Page 3
