Parasitic Skin Infections which is bites that are irritated from bugs. Basic Structures: 1. Epidermis- two main layers of cells making up skin 2. Dermis- thick layer of skin that is composed of sweat glands and hair follicles

Musculoskeletal SystemFunction:Allows motion, supports the body, and protects vitalorgansCareers: 1. ​Chiropractors they put the body back in alignment. 2. ​Kinesiologist is someone who studies the muscles and theirCommon Diseases:Arthritis is when the joint tissues ages over time.Osteoporosis is when the calcium on the bone starts to wear down Basic Structures: 1. Muscles- produce movement 2. Tendons- attaches muscle to bone

Nervous SystemFunction:For the brain to control and command the bodyCareers: 1. Neurological Surgeon performs surgery on the nervous system. 2. Neurologist diagnoses and treats disorders in the nervous system.Common Diseases:Alzheimer’s disease which is a loss of memory. Parkinson’s disease which is a disorder that causes unnatural facial expressions. Basic Structures: 1. Brain- controls the whole body 2. Spinal Cord- nerves that carries messages from brain to body 3. Nerves- signal given off by the brain or spinal cord for the rest of the body

Special SensesFunction:The eyes receives images and sends them to the brain,and the ears is to receive sounds and sends it to the brain.Careers: 1. Optometric Technicians prepare patients for examinations to get contacts or glasses. 2. ​Audiologist provides care to people with hearing problems.Common Diseases:Diplopia which is double vision. Hearing loss which can be the loss of some sound or all of sound completely Basic Structures: 1. Orbit- eye socket 2. Eardrum- responds to sound waves 3. Iris- colored part of eye

CardiovascularFunction:For blood to circulate throughout the body.Careers: 1. ​Cardiologist diagnoses and treats heart problems. 2. H​ ematologist diagnoses and treats blood problems.Common Diseases:Congestive Heart Failure is when the heart is not able topump (beat) enough. C​ oronary Artery Disease is when the arteries aren't working properly. Basic Structures: 1. Aorta- carries blood 2. Pulmonary Artery- transports de-oxygenated blood to the lungs 3. Pulmonary Veins- carries oxygenated blood back to the heart fromthe lungs

Respiratory SystemFunction:Bring oxygen into the bodyCareers: 1. ​Pulmonologist diagnoses treats lung problems. 2. A​ llergist diagnoses and treats patients with allergies.Common Diseases:Asthma is a allergic disorder that causes difficultybreathing, wheezing, and coughing. E​ mphysema is the progressive loss of lung function. Basic Structures: 1. Nasal Cavity- to warm, moisturize, and filter air 2. Lungs- breath in air and get rid of CO 2 when we breath out 3. Larynx- voice box

Digestive SystemFunction:Digestion of food and elimination of solid waste productsCareers: 1. Dental Hygienist remove stains from teeth, take x-rays, and help patient maintain good dental health 2. Dietetic Technician plans menus, prepares food, and provides good dietary instructionCommon Diseases:Bruxism is the grinding and clenching of teeth during sleep. D​ ysphasia is difficulty swallowing. Basic Structures: 1. Mouth- chews and breaks down food 2. Stomach- digests food 3. Small Intestine- digestion and absorption of food

Urinary SystemFunction:Remove excess liquids, filters blood to remove waste,maintain homeostasis, and maintain proper balance of saltand water.Careers: 1. U​ rologist provide medical and surgical management for urinary tract 2. T​ ransplant Surgeons transplant vital organs for patients whose organs fails (ex. Kidney for urinary system)Common Diseases:Chronic Renal Failure is when the kidney fails and is in need of a transplant. Hydroureter is when urine won’t flow. Basic Structures: 1. Kidneys- removes waste and balances fluids 2. Ureter- tube that carries urine

Reproductive SystemFunction:To create new lifeCareers: 1. A M​ idwife assists the mothers 2. C​ hildbirth Educator teaches parents about child and infant care.
