If Rose Bradley’s face looks familiar to you it is because she probably waited on your table and served you excellent Mexican food at the restaurant she opened here in El Monte 50 years ago, El Sombrero. Rose was raised by entrepreneurs. Her father owned a grocery store and restaurant on Granada Avenue in El Monte. It was in this environment that she learned about good food and how to run a business. Rose combined forces with her mother and brother to openEl Sombrero Restaurant. She found that the secret to her success was in paying attention to detail. Rose would not tolerate “cutting corners” in any aspect of her life and business, particularly with food and most importantly with customer service. She set an example by being the first one to arrive and the last one to leave work each day while maintaining a vigorous work ethic throughout the day. Even though she worked at El Sombrero nearly every day and served many, few have ever seen her sitting still. Rose has firmly establishedEl Sombrero as an anchor of commerce in El Monte. Rose accomplished all this while raising her five children. Now days Rose, two of her children Melody and Erica and her two grandchildren Richard and Ruben are serving the same authentic Mexican food that Rose first served 50 years ago at El Sombrero Restaurant.
