A message from the president………..On behalf of the Niagara County Music Educators Association (NCMEA), thecounty unit of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), I wel-come you to the 2017 All County Music Festival Concerts. It truly is my privilegeto preside over these performances that honor the musical achievements of stu-dents across our county, the dedication of their music teachers, the support ofschool districts, and the love of families. The All County experience is special. Children from different communities come together, lend their tal-ents, and create something beautiful. They work as a team with each member actively contributing to thefinal goal. The students think creatively and demonstrate great poise. They learn challenging music, workwith a new conductor, make lasting friendships, and create memories that will reach far beyond this day.The incredible skills and talent that brought them to this moment will continue on throughout their lives asthey shine for years to come. These young people are the next generation and will add positively to thecommunity. It truly is an amazing experience, a gift.I would be remiss if I did not formally thank the devoted teachers of Niagara County that give up hours ofextra time and immeasurable effort to assure this experience is available to your children. The level of mu-sicianship in Niagara County is to be commended and is a direct result of wonderful teaching. Teacherswho inspire, motivate, and model; who believe in curiosity, vision, and challenge. The incredible Peter Boonshaft in his book Teaching Music With Passion quotes Zoltan Kodaly- “Real art is oneof the most powerful forces….and he who renders it accessible to as many people as possible is a benefactor of hu-manity”. Your children are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the creative force America will need. Partof their success will be from the musical education they have been given.Let us make sure that music education remains a large part of our children’s education. It is through thearts that communities will grow and thrive. A huge thank you parents, families, friends, teachers, adminis-trators for your invaluable support. Now, please sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful concert and thegifts your children will share today.April Carere, President NCMEA 3

Her last 16 years have been at Twelve Corners Middle School in Brighton, a suburb of Rochester. A graduate of SUNY Potsdam with a BM in music education, she received her Masters in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music. Ms. Muhl has been involved with her local county music organization (MCSMA) and has coordinated all levels of ensembles and solo festivals throughout her tenure on the committee. She most recently conducted the Ontario County Elementary All County Orchestra in Canandaigua. A violist, Ms. Muhl has performed in various local groups including the Greece and Penfield Symphonies and enjoys performing regularly in a string quartet with other local educators. When she’s not doing music, she’s most likely hiking in the Adirondacks (13 high peaks and all 23 fire towers!) with her husband and son, a brand new bass player.Music is hard, but it’s worth it. The first time you have that “a-ha moment.” The first time music takes your breathaway or brings you to tears, that’s what it’s all about. Thank you for nurturing a love of music in your kids andallowing me a little time to work with them this weekend!20
