THE POWER OF EDUCATIONNelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most power-ful weapon in the world”, and yes it is. Education can change the world. If you think about it, having education shaped you as a human being. You are aware of box and experimenting with yourself, you realize your place in the world, and you can dream helps one to recognize oneself of achieving big things in life. This is why the importance of education cannot be stressed enough. A good education not only teaches one skills but also helps one broaden horizons, gain bet-ter perspective, and teaches one to think for oneself. Nowadays, people are quite aware and com-fortable speaking about social in- to understand the ways of the justices and some other pressing issues. People face challenges in their professional life as well as their personal lives, but in such situations, their ability to make rational and informed decisions comes from how educated and self-aware they are. This can be attributed to the increased access informal education, where-to education around the world, which in turn has made society more accepting and open-mind-ed, through education critical skills like decision-making, men- as well as girls being taught tal agility, problem solving and logical thinking as well as assess-ment of situations are developed. emerges from our surroundings Therefore education is an ele-ment of human evolution. The importance of education is also pronounced in areas of creativ-ity and innovation. Education encourages thinking outside the new ideas. A good education and their strengths, as one would learn about the world and oneself, someone comes across things that interest them. In education, you find things that you are good at and figure out how best you can contribute and help the world. Education gives one opportunities to explore oneself and one’s sur-roundings and empowers one world. It also gives one freedom to live a life of one’s choice. Education is not only how well you can read and write but whether you can communi-cate with and understand the world around you. This is called by societal norms and values are passed from generation to generation, whereby older men teaches boys about manhood how to be good women by the elderly women. Also education including people. Nature as well give some lessons, thus how indigenous knowledge systems are attained. However, with the advent of formal education, this indigenous knowledge has been shunned away and some-times despised. This brought about importation of culture and decline of indigenous culture. The looking down upon informal education has also brought societal rot such as drug abuse among the youths, thereby rekindling the desire to revive local culture.© Nonsikelelo Moyo

ALL SET FOR KING MZILIKAZI DAY COMMEMORATION 2023All set for King Mzilikazi 2023 Commemorations. This year marks exactly 155 years since the Found-er of the Ndebele State King Mzilikazi kaMasho-bane passed on. The celebrations are to be held at Mhlahlandlela. The King’s remains are interred at a hill called Entumbane at Matopo just a few kilome-tres from colonialist Cecil John Rhode’s grave. Mhlahlandlela, King Mzilikazi’s last known capi-tal, is located off the Old Gwanda Road, about 22 kilometres outside Bulawayo. Traditionally organised by Mthwakazi KaMzilikazi Cultural Association (MMCA) and other stake-holders, the Mthwakazi nation and other nations are urged to attend the event slated for 9 September 2023. “We urge you as a nation to attend the commem-orations of our King. We are left with two months only, let us all prepare for the big day. We are in talks with transport operators to ferry people from City hall to Mhlahlandlela .We appeal for dona-tions in cash and foodstuffs. Lets go there in large numbers and showcase our culture to the world as we remember our King. Last year’s event was a very huge success and we expect a huge turn out again this year.”said Nkosini Tshuma , one of the organ-isers and also a member of iButho leNkosi from his base in South Africa. As usual, the event is expect-ed to be attended by AmaNtungwa from neigh-bouring countries, various cultural organisations and people from all walks of life. Government officials are also expected to grace the occasion. The name Mzilikazi means the great road. King Mzilikazi was a Southern African king who migrated from present day KwaZulu-Natal and founded the Matabele kingdom in the region now called Mata-beleland in Zimbabwe. King Mzilikazi was succeeded by King Lobhengula until his disapperance following the British invasion led by Cecil John Rhodes in 1893. Article by Nkosini Tshuma (Ibutho)

APOSTLEH.GUTI’SDEATHWHERE DOES THIS LEAVE ZAOGA?Priscah Ndlovu Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa Forward in Faith Minis-tries International members and Zimbabweans at large on the 5th of July 2023 received some disturbing news of Apostle Dr Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti’s death. He was 100 years. Dr Guti is the founder of ZAOGA FIF. Year in and year out Guti would pre-announce the “year’s theme” to his church members. The theme would mostly carry the message of what will happen in that year. The members would then pray guided accordingly by the theme of the year, hence the Zaogian ten days letter. Now that he is gone Where does this leave Zaoga as a church? Who will be pre-announcing the theme and fore-seeing the Zaoga future? Does this mean the end of Zaoga? Zaoga Fif Victoria falls District Pastor, Gerald Vhevha’s mes-sage to his congregants said, “the apostle E.H Guti served God faithfully. He has finished the race set before him, he is going to receive his crown. Long live the legacy and what a great man of God. A life lived for God, he has left us with a big God.” Regional Pastor Edmore Kataya said “we celebrate a life well lived, he has set a pace for us to follow as he always said follow me as I follow Christ” The two Victoria Falls based Zaoga Pastors are so certain that Guti was a true and genuine man of God, that if only people hold on to his teachings from his books ZAOGA shall live forev-er and nothing will stop that. Dr Guti warned his congregants in one of his books, that: (1) Let the people be taught to do what I taught and not just like my face only, but love God and His word not my word. (2) If people lean on me as their source of strength they will be led astray when I am gone because they will say, “our stength is gone!”Dr Guti was declared a national hero.

Every child is equal, beneath Earth’s wide domain, Past burdens shouldn’t blame, in society’s refrain. Let’s empower girls, but not leave boys behind, Creating balance we find, a society truly aligned. No, equality won’t vanish, between girls and boys, Both protected, both rejoice, their potentials to deploy. Which gaps shall we close, you may ask anew? History’s shadows, past’s residue, forging a future true. Wisdom lies not in repetition, weapons of the past, But in creating contrast, where fairness will stead-fast. Let’s start afresh, with minds wide open, Empowering all, no one left broken. Early on, let’s embrace this view, Seeking equality through and through, For it’s not about power, woman or man, But harmonious unity, hand in hand. ©Kwanele KhumaloLife is too short, a fleeting breath, A tapestry of moments, birthed and death. In the blink of an eye, it swiftly flies, Leaving behind whispers of joyful cries. Life is too short to dwell on sorrow, Embrace each sunrise, cherish tomorrow. For in the depths of the darkest night, Hope emerges, painting life so bright. Life is too short to hold onto fear, Take a leap, let your dreams appear. Dance with passion, sing with all your might, Unleash the fire within, ignite the light. Life is too short for grudges and strife, Choose forgiveness, embrace a new life. Release the burdens that weigh you down, Let love and kindness be your sacred crown. Life is too short to neglect the small, The gentle touch, the laughter’s call. Find beauty in every flower’s bloom, Savor every taste, fill each room. Life is too short to keep waiting in vain, Seize every opportunity, break the chain. Reach for the stars, chase your desires, Set your soul ablaze, let passion transpire. Life is too short for regrets untold, Live each moment, be brave and bold. Embrace the journey, both highs and lows, For it’s through experience true wisdom grows. Life is too short, a precious gift indeed, So let us treasure every word we speak. With open hearts and spirits unbound, Let us make every second truly profound. For life is too short, this truth we know, To live with purpose, let our spirits flow. May we leave a legacy, shining bright, Even when we’re gone, our love takes flight. ©Kwanele KhumaloPOETRY CORNERLIFE IS TOO SHORTBOTH MUST BEEQUAL

Obert Dube the African Poet ap-peals to Matabelaland commu-nity to support them as Matabe-laland artists. He wrote on his Facebook page that, \"when artists are requesting for support, they are not literally asking for money. Yes you can give them money if you want to help but what they want mostly is to be made big and recognis-able.\" He says it has became a norm that Matabelaland artists do not go anywhere beyond Hilbrow theatre, Zebra pond, Bulawayo theatre and City Hall. It is rare door for Matabeleland artists to perform in shows overseas like what Mashonaland artists do. Dube says this is because people from Matabelaland do not follow their home artists on social me-dia platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter, but they are following those from Mashonaland and South Africa. \"It is not wrong or a crime to follow artists from Mashonaland and South Africa, but can you not forget home\", Dube pleads. He knows and agrees that it is not wrong to follow whoever artists people they choose but he is also appealing to the people of Matabele-land, to support and lift them up. More followers on social media plat-forms is a proof that you are a well known artist. Dube says that they can be supported even through inviting them to perform in ceremonies and through giving them marketing jobs. Obert Dube ,The African Poet is originally from Lupane. He has been in the industry for more than a decade. Besides being a poet, a comedian and a master of ceremonies, Dube is also a writer who wrote two books titled ELupane and Ichibi lezinkondlo in 2021 and 2022 respectively. He is a multi award winner who won in the (1) United Africa for Economic Em-powernent (2) NAMA in 2015, 2021 and 2022 (3) Amaqhawanentamba Music Awards in 2021 and 2022 (4) Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards. Dube said this year's Awards will be on 12 August and he is a nominee. Dube believes in giving back to the community. He started a \"FAMI-LY TIME PROGRAM\" during the Covid-19 days. In the program on his Facebook page we see him help--ing the vulnerable school kids, we see him re- uniting families especially children who are in search of their parent/s and vice versa.OBERT DUBETHE AFRICAN POET APPEALS FOR LOCAL SUPPORT.....people from Matabelaland do not follow their home artists on social media plat-forms...... Celebrating a remarkable three decades in the music indus-try, Jeys Marabini continues to push boundaries and embrace new opportunities. With an unwavering commitment to his fans, Jeys remains dedicated to delivering unforgettable performances through-out the city and beyond as he looks forward to the approach-ing year-end. “We are tirelessly working every day, diligently preparing to captivate our fans nationwide with exceptional music. That is our primary focus at the moment,” expressed Marabini enthusiastically. Born Majahawodwa Ndlovu, in Filabusi in 1971, and is the seventh child in a family of nine boys, he attended Dekezi Primary and Dekezi Secondary schools. His musical back-ground can be traced from secondary school, but it was not until 1991 at the age of 20 that he decided to become a pro-fessional musician forming a band called Comforting Broth-ers, which later changed its name to Imbizo. It was at this time that he assumed the name “Jeys Marabini”, presumably from the Marabi type of music he plays. Immediately after the establishment of Imbizo in Bulawayo, the gifted vocalist was soon approached by a representative of the group Sunduza Boys which had made a name in the City of Kings after they had seen his electrifying performance. Now as the lead vocalist of the group Jeys and the Sunduza Boys embarked on their Indian and United Kingdom tour which lasted for six months. The tour saw Jeys performing at some of the world’s biggest festivals like WOMAD (World of Music and Dance), LAMA-TREE, Glastonbury and Edinburgh festivals, to mention just a few. The Equator Company signed its first pro-motional deal with Albert Nyathi, who was entering the international arena for the first time. This was followed by the late Marshall Munhumumwe and the Four Brothers. Im-bizo and Siyaya Arts all from Zimbabwe also made their breakthrough into the interna-tional scene via the same route. After the successful world tour Jeys Marabi-ni came back home to take a well-deserved break before the formation of a 10-member band called Kozekulunge in 2002. The band has the following members: On lead vocals and acoustic guitar is the man himself Jeys Marabini, on bass guitar is Kevin Ndlovu, on lead guitar, Mthabisi Moyo, on drums, Trevor Mnaphi. There are three vocalists, Dumisani Nkomo, Faith Moyo and Fatwell Ncube, and on saxophone is Julius Ndoro. Jeys Marabini’s type of music is a fusion of afro-jazz, accapella, traditional and imbube music which are all a consolidation of sweet melodies from yesteryear Africa up until the present time, blended with modern instru-ments. He recorded his debut album “Emarabini” in 2002 and the video “Emarabini” was voted the Video of the Year at the Zimbabwe Music Awards the same year. Article by Kwanele KhumaloJEYSMARABINI....three decades in the music industry...“Emarabini” was voted the Video of the Year at the Zimbabwe Music Awards the same year.

The second album “Thuthukani Ngothando” (2005) did very well on the market with the video “Umuzikababa” nominated for Zima Awards as well. Jeys’ third album “Sounds of Today and Tomorrow” (2005) contained the hit song “Amalungelo”. He also did a DVD, “Live at Bulawayo Rainbow” that is currently on the market and also featured on Gramma Records video adverts on Zimbabwe Television and the South African channel Trade and Tourism. The fourth album, “Jeys Marabini One Time” (2008) sold like hot cakes with a video “Ezinangeni” appear-ing on the Zimbabwe Television musical programme Ezomgido. The album is a clear testimony of a musician whose limit is not even the sky. This explains why besides being a well-respected re-cording artiste, he is one of the rare breed of musicians capable of providing rare grooves and cosmopolitan types of music. Jeys performed alongside one of the world’s greatest like Peter Gabriel in the USA and some of South Africa’s renowned musicians like The Soul Brothers, Bheku-muzi Luthuli, Freddy Gwala, Platform One, Mzwakhe Mbuli and Jeff Maluleke in Polokwane “Artistes Against Xenophobia” in South Africa. Jeys has also performed with renowned artistes Shwi Nomtekhala, the King of Sungura Alick Macheso, Tongai Moyo and superstar Oliver Mtukudzi, to mention just a few. This has seen Jeys Marabini performing at national galas and festivals Umdala Wethu Gala, Heroesplush and Unity Gala held in Victoria Falls one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo, Mthwakazi Arts Festival, Bulawayo Agenda and the Zimbabwe Red Cross. Jeys’ fifth album, “Izenzo” (2010) was recorded at Khula Records in South Africa. The album fea-tures Nana Coyote of Stimela from South Africa and Zim’s Ndatshi Mkhize of the Mahlathini and Mahotela Queens fame of yesteryear. Jeys Marabini’s latest album, recorded in South Africa in late 2011 and released in June 2012. Songs from this sixth album are topping the charts in Zimbabwe. On the philanthropist side Jeys Marabini is doing community projects in the form of promoting and supporting the young and the old upcoming musicians like The Managers, Black Face, Ndatshi Mkhize and Thethelela Dube to record. The project seeks to promote Global Unity by communicating with the world through music. In September last year Jeys performed at Oliver Mtukudzi’s birthday concert, with some of Africa’s best musicians such as Ringo Madlingozi, Judith Sephuma and others. In 2012 Jeys Marabini attended Roots Music from Africa, a festival held annually in Vienna, Austria. He was backed by the internationally acclaimed Insingizi band. Indeed, the future of music in Bulawayo is guaran-teed if people like Jeys Marabini remain there. He is currently the pride of Bulawayo in music circles. What has happened in the past is that many Bu-lawayo musicians have fled the city and gone to Harare, South Africa and overseas, thus depriving the City of Kings much deserved entertainment. In 2012 Jeys Marabini at-tended Roots Music from Africa, a festival held an-nually in Vienna, Austria.........Jeys performed at Oliver Mtukudzi’s birthday concert, with some of Africa’s best musicians such as Ringo Madlingozi........

She embraces vulnerability She is always on the move She knows where she is going She displays integrity She helps others develop She knows how to inspire She has a clean leadership The list is endless But above all, so many count on her,She is Buhlebenkosi Ncube.Article by Priscah NdlovuHailing from Plumtree rurals, where she went to Mangwe Primary School and Ihlathi High School in Bulawayo for her Secondary education, Buhle is one of the few that managed to make something out of nothing. Despite having a deep rural background, Buhle is making a difference through sports, football to be more precisely, in her community. Driven by the passion to make a differ-ence, in 2020 at a young age of 28, she formed an organization called Sport-grind. The organization impacted many underprivileged members of the society in Bulawayo, Binga and Mangwe through help. The fact that she impacts lives through football inspires a lot of people and makes her a true leader. Heroin Buhle is also a giver. She is paying school fees for four female minors in Mangwe and one in Bulawayo. She is also mentoring a young female soc-cer player that she spotted in Gwanda. Speaking to this publication, Buhle says, “Sports is empowering. It’s participation offers an opportunity to build self esteem especially to girl child, courage and self-efficacy. It is a place to understand yourself better. It is a place where you get to understand yourself and life better. Sports en-courages to take initiative, raise voice and attempts things that you never thought were possible!”She continues to say, “When community members see girls achieve in sports they probably recognize girls potential to achieve in other do-mains. Sports is a powerful tool and platform to strengthen social ties, networks, engage the community and promote a positive message. We therefore ought to take sports as a career not a hobby, or just a mere activity especially for girls”.Women in football aims to improve women’s presentation at all levels of the game by challenging discrimination and lobbying for change in the sports industry, and eliminate negative attitudes towards women work-ing in football. THE MANOF MANY TALENTSMusician, Financial planner,film-maker and fashion designerMpilo Hospital in Bulawayo wel-comed Stanley Nyathi, a highly versatile individual who needs no introduction on the streets of Bulawayo. He has embarked on an impressive career journey.Love affair with music began in 2019 and has made significant waves with hit songs like “iTeam Yezwe lonke.” Currently, Nyathi’s music is so captivating that nightclubs and sports bars remain open until the following morning, with people vowing to dance to his latest hit song titled “Umalume.” The song has even made to Sky Metro’s top 20 and played every Saturdays.Like many local artists, Nyathi is concerned about the lack of sup-port for local music. Unfortunately, local music often goes unnoticed by many people, undermining the tremendous efforts put in by local artists. “Many people don’t take local music seriously because a large number of Zimbabweans are living outside the country. For a long time, people have been exposed to South African music. This is mainly due to poor marketing and insufficient invest-ment in our own music,” said Nyathi. In addition to being a musi-cian,Nyathi is Financial Planner by profession holding a diploma in financial planning. He began his educational journey at Ingwengwe & Nkayi Primary School before completing his secondary education at Tohwe & St Bernard Secondary respectively. From a young age, Nyathi demon-strated his entrepreneurial skills by establishing his clothing label, “Stunning Clothing,” in 2016. This has brought happiness to fans and continuity of staunch and ardent support to the most supported Black and White team, Amahlolanyama. “ITeam yezwe lonke”, as Highlanders is affectionately known by being supported by fans from all over the coun-try is blessed to have players like Ariel Sibanda(the Cap-tain), Peter Muduhwa (best Defender),Mbongeni Ndlovu as well as Melikhaya Ncube who is Bosso’s top goal scorer with 3 goals so far.Taking a glance on the team’s best defender of the month July, Peter Muduhwa who was born on 11th of August 1993 and grew up in Pumula Old koBulawayo, draws the fans attention by his jovial energy and providing solid defense in the team as the best and dedicated Center-back, always motivated to save the team from losing matches. He did his primary education at Godlwayo Primary School in the year 2000-2006, and further proceeded to Pumula High School to do his Secondary level. Considering the 17 games played without a loss yet, Muduhwa has appeared in the starting eleven team for Bosso and he has managed to deliver good defensive skills in all the games. Muduhwa said he is motivated by his favourite soccer player, Sergio Ramos Garcia a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a center-back. Asked to share a word with the Highlanders fans Muduhwa said, “ Let us(fans) come in multitudes and support High-landers and with such unwavering support the team can win in every game!”© Nonsikelelo Moyo
