DG Vesselin Dimitrov’s Message for September 2018 Our life path is a garland of memories of knowledge Bourgas, September 1, 2018 \"If you think one year ahead, sow rice, if you think 10 years ahead - plant a tree. If you think 100 years ahead - educate the population! \"- Confucius Dear Rotary Friends, This month will hit the school bell announcing the beginning of the school year. Many children will for the first time touch the depths of knowledge and feel the inspiration to learn and educate. Each of us remembers the first day he crossed the threshold of the school room. Everyone remembers the moment he has learned to read and write, the moment he has gone to a higher level of his education. Our life path is a time when we do not stop learning. It is a garland of memories of knowledge. We live in a dynamic world, and every day we have to learn something new, something different to keep up with the changes. Training is an ongoing process. In our lives, we also have knowledge that the educational system has failed to offer us. It is important that it has laid the foundations - our desire to build, to improve: to learn. The accumulated knowledge is our experience - the most valuable thing we have. And what is more valuable than sharing your knowledge with friends, people who want to make their communities an attractive center?

When we help a person in need to eat, find a job, we save a person in trouble. When we help someone learn to read and write, to educate - we give him freedom. Every day we see how many people are writing wrong, using numbers and symbols, even though we have one of the oldest alphabets. Our script, stored during hard times and reserved for generations, is part of our unique identity. The theme of September, set by Rotary International, is the basic education and literacy. This is also one of the focus areas of the Rotary Foundation. Rotarians around the world have set the goal of tackling this challenge - illiteracy, which is a scourge that creates prerequisites for health, hygiene, economic development and peacekeeping problems. And I want to mention another one in this month dedicated to education: when we offer a potential candidate for a Rotarian, we need to do the necessary to train it. The dynamics of our time require that we also conduct training for current Rotarians. Through Interact and Rotaract, we can pass on our knowledge to new generations. By sponsoring participants in the International Youth Exchange, we enable young people to gain international knowledge. When one thinks he has enough knowledge and no need to learn new things, it is good to recall Socrates' words, \"I know I do not know anything!\" Friends, I believe we can be the inspiration for a knowledge, education and literacy. Yours in Rotary, Veselin Dimitrov District Governor 2018-19 District 2482 Bulgaria
