Monthly message of DG Nina Miteva for the m. of March, 2016 Dear friends - Rotarians, We are at the beginning of the month of March with the mood of the spring revival, with the wishes which we extend to each other, to friends and relatives for us to be healthy, pink- cheeked and smiling! March in the calendar of Rotary is dedicated to the topic of water and sanitation. To us who got used to the plenty of the water and not knowing the privation of lack of water or the hard efforts and price, at which the people in large areas in the world obtain water for their everyday needs, this topic sounds somehow remotely. We are certainly wrong. We are given proof about it by the projects of RC Varna Evksinograd and RC Balchik on mounting of filters for water purification in the schools in these two towns. We are also given proof by the investigation of RC Panagyurishte on the state of the sewerage system in the villages of the municipality. Unfortunately, as long as we would like to see, the topic is of importance and present interest and it is beyond any doubt, when the state of the lavatories is estimated at too many schools all over the country. This is also shown by the analysis of the physicians on the risk and growth of the renal disorders amongst the children, who abstain from going to the lavatories at school. I agree that such a project may not seem as prestigious as the placement of a bas-relief or of a clock. But we are Rotary, we are a humanitarian organization. Such a project for the renovation of school lavatories, together with programs for training of children and parents on hygiene habits, on water saving is much more within our profile than all our cultural and historical activities. The cleanliness and hygiene are perfectly well associated with the spring and our wish for everything around us to be in a harmony. I just remember the tale of “Plums for garbage” and I would recommend to our friends of the youth programs to organize their classmates for a spring cleaning, which shall bring back to life the old tale into a modern version sounding like “Books for garbage” for instance! I will be glad to know that these reflections of mine have materialized into actions, carried out with a smile, with good mood and with effect to the environment, where we live in! 3

Spring is the time for renewal and putting in order in our club as well, in our Rotarian home. The district team is reaching out to you for this to happen by organizing and inviting you to take part in Training Seminar for Elect- boards for Interact on March 5th, for Rotary on March 18th – 20th, for Rotaract on March 26th. Time is running which is good to be used for synchronous work of the previous and the new club board, for a review of what has been done, for setting goals and thinking over new projects. Naturally, there is still time until the end of the Rotarian year. A seminar on the membership and training of the Rotary Leadership institute are forthcoming. Holidays are in store for us– in Pamporovo, organized by RC Smolyan, in March as it is, though called “winter”, anniversaries of RC Haskovo and RC Sozopol, chartering of RC Sofia Capital. It will probably become a reality the first satellite club in Tryavna, with mother-club – RC Gabrovo. We are preparing ourselves for participation at the congress of Rotary International in Seoul with a Bulgarian stall, where we will present Bulgaria and Bulgarian Rotarianship. Dear friends, your response to the first bulletin gives me the courage to offer this second issue to you telling about our youth programs and about the clubs from fourth zone. I do it with the inner conviction that in order for us to feel part of a community and to be proud of this, we should know each other better. Ahead of us are many days of work and fun at our clubs and at our organization. May the spring mood not leave us, may the energy of the shared friendship make us more successful and happier people! Nina 4

Presentation Zone 4 ADG Slavcho Lachinov Slavcho is a charter member of RC Bansko-Razlog, owner of a service shop for refrigeration equipment. His wife Reni is a teacher and they have a son, who has recently graduated as a lawyer, and a daughter, student in the major of Medical biology in Germany. Zone 4 is situated on the territory of the district of Blagoevgrad. Our parts are amongst the most beautiful in Bulgaria, with numerous natural places of interest – mountains, forest areas, warm mineral springs, with rich cultural and historical heritage. The Zone includes 5 Rotary clubs – RC Bansko – Razlog, RC Blagoevgrad – Center, RC Gotse Delchev, RC Petrich and RC Sandanski. All they put into practice various projects and initiatives with which they take their well- deserved place in the common cause of Rotary. During this year four of the presidents of the fifth clubs in Zone 4 are women. And as we already know the ideas created and realized by women are full of energy, responsibility and good. These five clubs keep up good and permanent connections between each other and pay visits to each other frequently. An event is forthcoming until the end of the year and it is expected with interest - on April 15th, 2016 in the town of Petrich a meeting of the clubs from the zone will be held. The preparation is under way so we hope that we shall make a nice holiday together. All friends are welcome! 6

RC Bansko-Razlog with president Emiliya Kovacheva Emiliya and her husband have got a family company – a pastry shop supplying the hotels in this region и delighting the residents of Bansko with its products. She is a mother of two sons living and working in Bansko as well as a grandmother of two grandsons. She is a charter member of her club. RC Bansko-Razlog is chartered during November, 2003. The most significant projects have been carried out on the territory of the municipalities of Bansko and Razlog and particular attention should be paid to what has been done at Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment Razlog. After the successfully completed project of RC Bansko-Razlog, by which the intensive care sector of the internal ward of MHAT Razlog was supplied with state-of-the-art medical equipment during the year 2012, RC Bansko-Razlog was determined as a club No1 at District 2482 Bulgaria. During 2014 RC Bansko Razlog fulfilled another medical project, furthering and assisting the timely care for the expectant mothers and the newborn infants in the municipalities of Bansko, Razlog, Belitsa and Yakoruda. The ward at MHAT Razlog has got new monitors for simultaneous monitoring of the vital indices of mothers and newborns, fetal monitors, central computer system, couveuses, lamps for newborn infant, ultrasonic apparatus, maternity table and consumables. The project has been co-financed with 11 clubs from the USA, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Macedonia and the municipalities of Bansko and Razlog. MHAT Razlog has at its disposal new medical equipment, which is equivalent to the medical equipment at the university hospitals in the USA and conforms to the most modern requirements for diagnostics and monitoring. Thanks to these projects of RC Bansko-Razlog about 80 thous. of people from the municipalities of Bansko, Razlog, Belitsa and Yakoruda shall be attended and served. One of the recent successful projects is “Prevention of and fighting diabetes among adolescents “. The campaign aims at raising the awareness about diabetes and to encourage the adolescents for a healthy manner of eating and to acquire habits for physical activity and sports. At this stage many clubs of the district began working on this cause and there are all the preconditions at hand for it to become a national campaign. 7

RC Blagoevgrad–Center President Todor Dimov Chartered on: November 18th, 2001 Sponsor club: RC Sofia - Vitosha Meeting: Monday, 7:00 p.m., “Alen Mak” hotel During this Rotarian year RC Blagoevgrad – Center has been working in support of the talented children from the town of Blagoevgrad. A concert was organized and with the funds raised from the Christmas charity evening and the concert these children were stimulated and given assistance for further development and future appearances. There is another significant project which is currently in progress that is building up and complete decorating of a chapel in the village of Padezh. 8

RC Gotse Delchev President Mariya Gerova Mariya is a physician gynecologist and she takes pride in the fact that Gotse Delchev is one of the towns with positive increase in population – it was only during the last year that more than 600 infants were born at the obstetrics and gynecology ward of the local hospital. She is mother of a son and two daughters and proud grandmother of four granddaughters. The club has got 26 members, ten of them being women. During 2015-16 Rotarian year for the second year in a row a contest was held for the Day of the Leaders of the National Revival - \"We gave something to the world as well\" with more than 200 contestants. With the resources of the entire club a campaign was organized that is \"Diabetes prevention“, whereupon 2800 pupils were given medical examination. It was for the Day of the Maternity aid that a modern maternity and delivery bed was given as a present to the Maternity ward at MHAT- Gotse Delchev to the amount of BGN 12 000. Help has been provided to a Center for accommodation of family type for elderly people with mental retardation with pellets for heating. The youth tourist society named “Pirinski strazhi” /Guards of Pirin/ has been also given assistance. We are also going to have the Children’s day for the 1st of June, which have already become a tradition. 9

RC Sandanski President Rayna Atanasova Reni has been a member of the club since the year 2008. She has an accounting company providing service to the well- established hotels and businesses in the town. She is mother of a son and a daughter and enjoys a grandson. During October, 2015, Rotary club Sandanski organized а basketball tournament the first running of which was in the year 2013 and is held on the sports ground in the town park, endowed by RC Sandanski. The second basketball tournament has become a real sports fest for the young boys and girls from Sandanski, Petrich and Gotse Delchev, representing the sports teams of \"Yane Sandanski\" High School, \"Yane Sandanski” High School of Mathematics and Natural Science – town of Gotse Delchev, \"Anton Popov\" Secondary School of General Education and \"Peyo Yavorov\" High School – Petrich. In the year 2016 for the next tournament it is expected to be also invited teams from R. of Macedonia and R. of Greece. Rotary club Sandanski took up a new initiative as well, which shall be put into practice during the year 2016. Alongside the waterfall at the locality of Popina laka shall be built up protection works and the place shall be improved. A portion of the funds required for this to happen – about BGN 13 000, have already been raised through the traditional charity Christmas ball of Rotary club Sandanski. Link for video from this picturesque place - https://www.facebook.com/pirinko/videos/10153757260714691/ The Rotarians from the town together with the municipality of Sandanski are engaged during the year with another project too – for renovation of the Children’s section of the lending library, which is located at the House of culture. 10

RC Petrich President Dimitrina Haramliyska Dimitrina is an attorney-at-law by profession, her husband is a lawyer as well and they are proud to have two lovely children. She has been a member of the club since 2011 and her energy and enthusiasm are the driving force behind many successful projects. The Rotarian year 2015/2016 is special to Rotary club Petrich, which celebrated 10 years of its establishment. The fest on the 16th of October was attended by 230 guests, inclusive of Rotarians from Blagoevgrad, Gotse Delchev, Sofia-Vitosha, Bansko-Razlog, Sandanski, Kardzhali, Kavadartsi /Macedonia/ and Greece. The anthem of the club created by the friends Svetoslav Loboshki and Georgi Hadzhimargaritov, the special program, the cake, the kind greetings and nice words from friends created a great atmosphere which is to be remembered in time. For its fest the club gave presents to the children of Petrich – 200 football, basketball and volleyball balls were given as a present to all schools in the town; sports aids to sports club in wrestling; materials and aids for rehabilitation to the children from “Slantse” /Sun/ Home for children with disabilities. During the month of November, once again with Rotarian guests, was organized a wonderful evening at a hut in the mountain of \"Belasitsa\", named \"Evening of chestnuts and wine\". We have had an unforgettable atmosphere again with friends, an exhilarating evening, rallying our ranks. 11

A net income of BGN 24 000 was raised from cover charges, raffle and auction after deduction of the costs and expenses from the Christmas ball of the club. This sum is intended for refurbishment and equipping of three consulting rooms at the gynecology ward in the town’s hospital. With regard to the preparation of this project recently the Rotarians from Petrich were at this ward and felt the joy of seeing in the couveuse, purchased by Rotary club of Petrich and granted to the hospital during one of the preceding initiatives, a lovely little girl, born on the same day – Yoanka. For the social welfare patronage to the municipality of Petrich was granted a motor vehicle /manufactured in 2011/, for catering for and carrying around of food to sick, elderly and dependent people in need, living in the villages of the municipality, who have not been catered for until this time. The motor vehicle is branded with the inscription of \"Rotary club of Petrich\" and was officially delivered to the municipality of Petrich on February 23rd, 2016, to mark the occasion of the world-wide day of Rotary. Forthcoming to be held are competitions for essays at the schools in the municipality of Petrich, and the prize-winners shall receive laptop, tablet and photo-camera. . 12

RYLA 2016 “As if just all in a breath slipped by another one of our RYLA seminars... Very emotional, very exhilarating, very cautionary...” Usually we are telling this each other after the end of every RYLA seminar. With a slight melancholy as well as with a confidence that the next year we are to expect some more exciting experiences together, we are seeing out the participants. For some 7 (seven) years now we – from Rotary club Burgas – Pirgos, together with District 2482, have been organizing a training seminar for young leaders in our beautufil sea town, which is held during the month of April. Every year we have been meeting with various, unique and special young people, leaders in their clubs, schools, companies. The participants are nominated by Rotary clubs from all over the country, being between 18 and 25 years old. They are distinguished by their skills to unite and lead, to inspire and to make followers of their ideas. By tradition the training includes a lecture part, dedicated to leadership, various games for getting to know each other and rallying round, sports activities, as well as some thematic interactive activities, enabling the young people to develop their potential and to add to their knowledge. And last but not least – the spirit of friendship is always fastened together with much fun and a party evening together with the hosts. Once again during this year the program of RYLA 2016 is diverse and brimming over with adventure moments. The club playing host of the event – RC Burgas-Pirgos, together with its Rotaract and Interact clubs, have prepared several surprises. A new lecturer, new training activities, new challenges are only a part of the new topics of the forthcoming 13

seminar. And of course – lots of fun!! With positive message and motivating training module the RYLA seminar every year brightens up, promotes, trains the young leaders of the community. Nominate a participant from your Rotaract club or Interact club, give him/her an opportunity for an unforgettable experience, inspire the young generations! Friendly regards, Nevyana Yankova RC Burgas-Pirgos 14

Interact Sevlievo Chartering On February 8th, 2016 was held the charter ceremony of Interact Club Sevlievo.
