Bharat Times, August 2022 3 www.bharattimes.com (Advertisement) Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple (the HSV) AGM and Elections 2022 A message from Shri Thiruvasagan (Presidential Candidate for 2022/23) Dear Devotees, Hindu Society of Victoria’s AGM & Management Committee election is scheduled on Sunday, 28 Aug 2022 at 2.00PM at the Cultural and Heritage Centre, Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple, 52 Boundary Road, Carrum Downs 3201. Please attend the AGM and participate in the elections if you are an annual member or Life member. Your spouse has a vote too, therefore please attend with your spouse. Your attendance is vital to ensure the seventeen-member management committee reflects the mosaic of Hindus in Victoria. Background • Hindu Society of Victoria (HSV) was started in 1981 by Hindu migrants in Victoria. The Temple built in 1994, follows the much-revered ancient ritual protocols of the Saiva Agamas of Tamil Nādu for Lord Shiva and Vaikanasam Agamas of Lord Vaikhanasar for Lord Vishnu. • It is a member-owned Hindu religious organisation incorporated in Victoria. The Temple, land, infrastructure, and facilities have been built with devotees’ donations and Government grants and owned by the members of HSV. • The constitution of the Society allows anyone with an interest in Hinduism to become a member and contribute to the society. • Your participation as existing or as future members is earnestly sought to build and guide the society into its future. To rejuvenate the Society, we need to: 1. Encourage young Hindus and their families to become life members of the Temple and HSV. 2. Increase the diversity of members so that the Management Committee and Sub Committees can truly represent the diversity of the Temple’s devotees and encourage them to take leadership roles in the wider community, moulded in the values of our rich Hindu heritage. 3. Recruit front line staff and volunteers with language and service skills required to serve devotees from diverse ethnic groups. 4. Secure the Society (and Temple), to make it a platform for everyone rather than a club for a few. 5. Design programs in English for children to introduce the basic tenets & values of Hinduism to make learning easier and enjoyable. 6. Create annual programs aimed at giving to worthwhile causes and create a charity arm to give back to the society we live in. 7. Create a transparent system, with appropriate checks and balances to win the trust of new and former members, volunteers and devotees. 8. Reduce the amount of money (currently estimated to be more than 25% of income) spent on employees and bring volunteers back where possible to increase savings for capital works spending. 9. Ensure open, honest and transparent conduct of elections every year with minimum costs to the HSV. Currently, we believe: a) The process should be more transparent and reliable; b) Members’ list needs serious and close scrutiny, for members’ contact detail and their residential status in Victoria. We further believe, the list includes some members who may have passed away, moved houses or perhaps moved interstate. Let us bring our children & young adults to the HSV fold because they are the future guardians of HSV and the Temple. This is your Temple. You, the devotees should shape its future. If you are a member, please come to the AGM. If you are not a member yet, please consider joining HSV. If you need additional information, please email [email protected]. I or one of my team members will get in touch with you within twenty-four hours.
