‫سورۃ الزلزلة‬‎ The Meaning of the Surah The Quake 4













Verse & Translation Verse 3 ٣‫َوقَا َل ٱل ۡ ِإن َس ٰـ ُن َما لَ َها‬ And man says, “What is wrong with the Earth?” Let's Read Together Everyone will be confused. They thought that the Earth will remain as it is forever. However, suddenly Earth will be behaving so strangely, totally opposite of its usual condition. What is one of the strange behaviours of the Earth? 11

‫سورۃ الزلزلة‬‎ 99 Verse 4 Reports 12

Verse & Translation Verse 4 ٤‫يَ ۡو َمئِ ٍذ ُتَح ِّد ُث أَ ۡخ َبا َر َها‬ On that Day, the Earth will tell its tales. Let's Read Together The Earth speaks! This is indeed strange, and it will speak to God about the sins and all the bad things humans have done on her surface. This is strange because humans thought that the ground hides everything. Whenever he kills someone, or when he wants to hide his stolen treasures, he buries them underground. But on that day, the Earth itself discloses each person's deepest secrets. But why does the Earth do this? Is it possible for her to do so? 13

VVeerrssee&&TTrraannsslalatitoionn Verse 5 ٥‫بِأَ َّن َر َّب َك أَ ۡو َح ٰى لَ َها‬ For your Lord will have permitted it. Let's Read Together Earth’s telling the dark secrets of man is possible because God has allowed it to do so. For thousands of years, the Earth has been burdening itself with the task of keeping human secrets. Finally, it can let go of all these problems. So, when Allah allows it to do so, it does so willingly. That is why humans will feel so surprised, because all this while they thought that the Earth is their trusted ally. Instead, it turns out the Earth is Allah’s witness. Dictionary Ally : Someone who helps and supports somebody. Burden : A heavy duty or load that causes troubles. 15

‫سورۃ الزلزلة‬‎ 99 Verse 6 Groups 16

Verse & Translation Verse 6 ٦‫يَ ۡو َمئِ ٍذ يَ ۡص ُد ُر ٱل َّنا ُس أَ ۡش َتاتًا لِّ ُي َر ۡواْ أَ ۡع َم ٰـلَ ُه ۡم‬ On that Day, the people will emerge in groups, to be shown their deeds. Let's Read Together And everyone will be separated into different groups. There are groups for bad people and good people. Even among the good people, there will be groups for the better and the best people. The same goes for the bad people. In what manner the deeds will be shown? 17

‫سورۃ الزلزلة‬‎ 99 Verse 7 Small Goodness 18

Verse & Translation Verse 7 ٧‫َف َمن َي ۡع َم ۡل ِم ۡث َقا َل َذ َّر ٍة َخ ۡي ًرا يَ َر ُهۥ‬ Whoever has done an atom's weight of good will see it! Let's Read Together All good deeds will be shown, big and small. Not even the smallest of good deeds will be left unshown. This is so that good people will not lose hope, feeling that they have not done enough to go to heaven. And it also shows how just is God because He does not overlook His servants’ deeds. 19

‫سورۃ الزلزلة‬‎ 99 Verse 8 Small Wrongdoings 20

Verse & Translation Verse 8 ٨‫َو َمن َي ۡع َم ۡل ِم ۡث َقا َل َذ َّر ٍة َش ًّرا يَ َرهُۥ‬ And whoever has done an atom's weight of evil will see it! Let's Read Together However, we must not feel too comfortable. Because even our smallest evil deeds will be shown too. For the bad people, this is bad news, because they add on to their already big bad deeds. On the other hand, this is hopefully good news for the good people. He wants us to know that even though we have done bad deeds as well, it will not be counted in our record of deeds. How Forgiving Allah is! 21

Summary On the Day of Judgment, the Earth will shake violently. And all the secrets on it, inside it and beneath it will be told. Everything that we have done will be shown back to us. Synonyms Shaking = Tremble, vibrate, quake. Atom = Particle, molecule, speck of dust. Report = Tell of, describe, talk about. Lessons 1. Allah sees and counts every tiny little thing that we do. We should be aware of our intentions, actions, and what we say so that we could be safe in the Akhirah. 2. The world is a witness to our actions. We should take care of what we do to Allah’s creations including the environment. 3. Be a good Muslim to everyone because every creation will tell on us and become witnesses against us on the Day of Judgment. 23
