The Meaning of the Name: The Night Traveller 2

‫َوال َّس َما ِء َوال َّطا ِر ِق ‪َ 1‬و َما أَ ْد َرا َك َما ال َّطا ِر ُق ‪2‬‬ ‫النَّ ْج ُم الثَّاقِ ُب ‪ 3‬إِن ُك ُّل نَ ْف ٍس لَّ َّما َعلَ ْي َها َحا ِف ٌظ ‪4‬‬ ‫فَ ْليَن ُظ ِر ا ْ ِلن َسا ُن ِم َّم ُخ ِل َق ‪ُ 5‬خ ِل َق ِمن َّما ٍء دَافِ ٍق ‪6‬‬ ‫يَ ْخ ُر ُج ِمن بَ ْي ِن ال ُّص ْل ِب َوالتَّ َرائِ ِب ‪7‬‬ ‫ِإنَّهُ َعلَ ٰى َر ْج ِع ِه لَقَا ِد ٌر ‪ 8‬يَ ْو َم تُ ْبلَى ال َّس َرائِ ُر ‪9‬‬ ‫فَ َما لَهُ ِمن قُ َّوةٍ َو َل نَا ِص ٍر ‪َ 10‬وال َّس َما ِء ذَا ِت ال َّر ْجعِ ‪11‬‬ ‫َوا ْلَ ْر ِض ذَا ِت ال َّص ْدعِ ‪ِ 12‬إنَّهُ لَقَ ْو ٌل فَ ْص ٌل ‪13‬‬ ‫َو َما ُه َو بِا ْل َه ْز ِل ‪ِ 14‬إنَّ ُه ْم يَ ِكيدُو َن َك ْيدًا ‪15‬‬ ‫َوأَ ِكيدُ َك ْيدًا ‪16‬‬ ‫فَ َم ِّه ِل ا ْل َكافِ ِري َن أَ ْم ِه ْل ُه ْم ُر َو ْيدًا ‪17‬‬ ‫‪3‬‬

VERSE & TRANSLATION 1 - ‫َوال َّس َما ِء َوال َّطا ِر ِق‬ By the heaven and the nightly star! 2 - ‫َو َما أَ ْد َرا َك َما ال َّطا ِر ُق‬ And what will make you realize what the nightly star is? LET’S READ TOGETHER : Allah makes an oath by the nightly star. And he asks about the stars. 5

3 KEYWORD : Penetrating Lights 6

VERSE & TRANSLATION 3 - ‫النَّ ْج ُم الثَّا ِق ُب‬ (al-Ṭāriq) is the star of piercing brightness. LET’S READ TOGETHER : al-Ṭāriq is a light that penetrates the darkness. And nothing is hidden from its light. 7

4 KEYWORD : Guardian 8

VERSE & TRANSLATION 4 - ‫ِإن ُك ُّل نَ ْف ٍس لَّ َّما َعلَ ْي َها َحا ِف ٌظ‬ There is no soul without a vigilant angel recording everything LET’S READ TOGETHER : Every person is supervised by an angel who records all of his deeds. This is exactly like the lights that penetrate from far distance and arrive at Earth. 9

5-7 KEYWORD : Man’s Creation 10

VERSE & TRANSLATION 5 - ‫فَ ْليَن ُظ ِر ا ْ ِلن َسا ُن ِم َّم ُخ ِل َق‬ Let people then consider what they were created from! 6 - ‫ُخ ِل َق ِمن َّما ٍء دَافِ ٍق‬ They were created from a spurting fluid, 7 - ‫يَ ْخ ُر ُج ِمن بَ ْي ِن ال ُّص ْل ِب َوالتَّ َرا ِئ ِب‬ Stemming from between the backbone and the ribcage. LET’S READ TOGETHER : Allah urges man to reflect on himself. He is created from a liquid that was ejaculated. 11

8-10 KEYWORD : Disclosure 12

VERSE & TRANSLATION 8 - ‫ِإنَّهُ َعلَ ٰى َر ْج ِع ِه لَقَا ِد ٌر‬ Surely He is fully capable of bringing them back to life. 9 - ‫يَ ْو َم تُ ْبلَى ال َّس َرائِ ُر‬ On the Day all secrets will be disclosed. 10 - ‫فَ َما لَهُ ِمن قُ َّوةٍ َو َل نَا ِص ٍر‬ Then one will have neither power nor any helper. LET’S READ TOGETHER : Because Allah is one Who is Powerful enough to create man in the first place, He must be also the one Who is Powerful enough to bring him back from the dead. 13

11-12 KEYWORD : The Universe Bears Witness 14

VERSE & TRANSLATION 11 - ِ‫َوال َّس َما ِء ذَا ِت ال َّر ْجع‬ By the sky with its recurring cycles, 12 - ِ‫َوا ْلَ ْر ِض ذَا ِت ال َّص ْدع‬ And the earth with its sprouting plants! LET’S READ TOGETHER : Then, Allah takes an oath every time the rain falls, and by the Earth whenever there are plants sprouting. All of these are Allah’s witnesses. 15

13-14 KEYWORD : Decisive Words 16

VERSE & TRANSLATION 13 - ‫إِنَّهُ لَقَ ْو ٌل فَ ْص ٌل‬ Surely this Quran is a decisive word, 14 - ‫َو َما ُه َو ِبا ْل َه ْز ِل‬ And is not to be taken lightly. LET’S READ TOGETHER : The universe bears witness that the Quran is not an empty speech. Instead, it is a decisive criterion that separates truth from falsehood. 17

15-16 KEYWORD : Allah’s Plan 18

VERSE & TRANSLATION 15 - ‫ِإنَّ ُه ْم يَ ِكيدُو َن َك ْيدًا‬ They are certainly devising evil plans, 16 - ‫َوأَ ِكيدُ َك ْيدًا‬ But I too am planning. LET’S READ TOGETHER : The disbelievers are conspiring evil plans against the Prophet. However, Allah fails their plans and arranges for His own plans. 19

17 KEYWORD : Heedlessnes 20

VERSE & TRANSLATION 17 - ‫فَ َم ِّه ِل ا ْل َكا ِف ِري َن أَ ْم ِه ْل ُه ْم ُر َو ْيدًا‬ So bear with the disbelievers O Prophet. Let them be for just a little while. LET’S READ TOGETHER : Allah guarantees that the punishments for the disbelievers are only deferred for a while. Therefore, the Prophet should not break a sweat on their actions. 21

Additional Informations summary Surah al-Ṭāriq emphasizes that everyone is supervised by an angel who records everything that they do. And all of them will be brought back from their graves to be judged. Besides that, Allah has arranged a plan for the disbelievers. Therefore, the Prophet should not be worried about their evil plans. moral values 1. We must always be aware of out actions, so that we do not misstep. 2. We must always be aware of our origin and our final destination in the hereafter. 3. We must always reflect on ourselves. 23
