‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 1-4 The Arrangement of The World 6

Verse & Translation V1e-r4se ١ِ‫َوٱ ۡل َف ۡجر‬ By the dawn. ٢‫َولَ َيا ٍل‌‍‏‌ َع ۡش ٍر‬ And the ten nights. ٣‫َوٱل َّش ۡف ِع َوٱلۡ َوتۡ ِر‬ And the even and the odd. ٤‫َوٱلَّ ۡي ِل إِ َذا ي َ ۡس ِر‬ And the night when it passes; Let's Read Together Allah makes an oath on four natural phenomena, which are: the dawn that splits the darkness of night; the nights of ten; the odd and even nights; as well as the movement of night-time that passes by unconsciously. 7

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 5 A Meaningful Oath 8

Verse & Translation Ve5rse ٥‫ِح ۡج ٍر‬ ّ ‫َق َس ٌم‬ ‫َذٰلِ َك‬ ‫ف ِى‬ ‫َه ۡل‬ ‫ل ِ ِذى‬ Is this oath not strong enough for a thinking man/ a man of sense? Let's Read Together Allah wants us to think about the movements of the heaven. We can see that the that the heaven changes in harmony all the time. It changes from sunrise to sunset. What else does Allah want us to see and think of? 9

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 6-8 The People of ‘Ad 10

Verse & Translation V6e-rs8e ٦‫َألَ ۡم تَ َر َك ۡي َف َف َع َل َر ُّب َك بِ َعا ٍد‬ Have you not seen how your Lord has done with ‘Ad, ٧ِ‫إِ َر َم َذا ِت ٱلۡعِ َماد‬ the people of Iram, having tall pillars, ٨‫ٱلۡبِلَ ٰـ ِد‬ ‫ف ِى‬ ‫ِم ۡث ُل َها‬ ‫ُيۡخ َل ۡق‬ ‫لَ ۡم‬ َّ ‫ٱلتِى‬ whose similar place has never been made in any other land. Let's Read Together The people of ‘Ad lived a long time ago. They used to live in a big city with high pillars. This shows how great and strong was their nation. But this is not so important. Allah asks us to see what happened to them. Their land was destroyed. And their strong buildings were damaged too. But why? 11

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 9 The People of Thamud 12

Verse & Translation Ve9rse ٩‫َو َث ُمو َد ٱلَّ ِذي َن َجابُواۡٱل َّص ۡخ َر بِٱلۡ َوا ِد‬ And (have you seen how Allah deal) with the people of Thamud, who carved out huge rocks in the valley? Let's Read Together Another people was the people of Thamud who once roamed the Earth a long time ago and were stronger than the people of ‘Ad. They can cut out stones to make homes. But the same thing happened to them. They were also destroyed. Why is that? 13

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 10 The Fir'awn 14

Verse & Translation Ve10rse ١٠‫َوفِ ۡر َع ۡو َن ذِى ٱل ۡ َأ ۡوتَا ِد‬ And the Pharaoh, owner of the mighty stakes? Let's Read Together The Fir'awn used to be the King of Egypt. He owned the strongest buildings of all. He ordered his people to build big and mighty monuments. They possessed extremely huge and tall pyramids in Egypt. But now, the Pharaoh is no more. The city that he built is also gone and destroyed. Why did Allah destroy them? Dictionary Mighty: big, large, huge and enormous. Stakes or monuments: a statue, building, or structure built for historical importance. 15

Verse & Translation V11e-r1s2e ١١‫ٱلَّ ِذي َن َط َغواۡ ف ِى ٱلۡ ِبلَ ٰـ ِد‬ All of them were rebellious to Allah in their lands, ١٢‫فَأَ ۡكثَ ُرواۡ فِي َها ٱلۡ َف َسا َد‬ and spread much corruption there. Let's Read Together Here, Allah describes the common behaviour of these three people: the people of ‘Ad, Thamud and the Fir'awn. They did not obey the commands of Allah. They also did mischiefs and bad deeds in their lands. This is why Allah destroyed them. How did Allah destroy them? Dictionary Rebellious: unwilling to obey rules or accept normal standards of behaviour. Corruption: to be dishonest or do something not allowed by the authority or law. 17

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 13 Punishment 18

Verse & Translation Ve13rse ١٣‫فَ َص َّب َعلَ ۡي ِه ۡم َر ُّب َك َس ۡو َط َع َذا ٍب‬ So, your Lord poured on them a scourge of severe punishment. Let's Read Together Because of the disobedience and the corruption that they have caused in their lands,Allah unleashed on them unimaginable disasters. If they commit corruption, they will not escape His wrath. Because Allah is All-Seeing and All-Knowing. He never turns away from observing us. Dictionary Vigilant: watchful and alert of someone or something. Negligent: not giving proper care or attention to someone or something. Wrath: extreme anger. 21

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 15-16 Rich and Poor 22

Verse & Translation 1V5e-r1s6e ‫ۡك َر َم ُهۥ َو َن َّع َم ُهۥ‬١٥‫فَأَ َّما ٱل ۡ ِإن َس ٰـ ُن إِ َفَذاَي ُقَموا ُٱل ۡب ََترب َلِّىٓىٰ ُهأَ َر ُّب ۡكُه َرۥ َم َف ِأَن‬ Every person, when his Lord tests him by giving him honour and blessings, he says, ‘My Lord has honoured me!’ ١٦‫َوأَ َّمآ إِ َذا َما ٱ ۡب َتلَىٰ ُه َف َق َد َر َع َل ۡيهِ رِ ۡز َق ُهۥ َف َي ُقو ُل َرب ِّ ٓى أَ َه ٰـنَ ِن‬ But when He tests him by restricting his sustenance, he says, ‘My Lord has humiliated me!’ Let's Read Together When Allah gives us ni’mah, we can easily be thankful to Him. But when we did not get what we want, we quickly forget that Allah has gives us that Allah has given us other ni’mah before that. Some arrogant people even become angry at Allah. 23

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 17-18 Mistreating the Orphans and the Poor 24

Because you are not even kind to the orphan, ١٨‫َول َا َتَحـٰٓ ُّضو َن عَل َ ٰى َط َعا ِم ٱلۡ ِم ۡس ِكي ِن‬ nor do you encourage one another to feed the poor. Let's Read Together Allah denies those who try to claim their actions as good deeds. It is rightful for Allah to treat the bad people in that way. They are not worthy of being honored. Because they themselves do not honor others. In fact, they mistreat the orphans and the poor. They do not sympathize other beings. All they think about is themselves. 25

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 19-20 Love of Wealth 26

Verse & Translation 1V9e-r2se0 ١٩‫َوتَأۡ ُكلُو َن ٱل ُّت َرا َث أَ ۡكلًا لَّ ًّما‬ And you consume inheritance greedily; ٢٠‫َو ُتحِ ُّبو َن ٱلۡ َما َل ُح ًّبا َجمًّا‬ And love wealth immensely! Let's Read Together On top of that, they take other people’s property unlawfully. How greedy and blind are they just to become rich! Is all of this proper behaviour? Should they be honored by Allah with these kinds of behaviour? And should they be angry with Allah? 27

‫ سورۃ الفجر‬89 21-23 The Day of Reckoning 28

Verse & Translation 2V1e-r2se3 ٢١‫َكلَّآ إِ َذا ُد َّك ِت ٱل ۡ َأۡر ُض َد ًّكا َد ًّكا‬ Enough! But what is the use of remembering then? Let's Read Together Allah warns them to not continue behaving that way. The fearful day will come when everything will be crushed like powder. And the angels will be lining up, preparing to receive orders from Allah for judgement. Hell is shown as the punishment while regret at the time is useless. 29

‫‪ 89 24-26‬سورۃ الفجر‬ ‫‪Regret‬‬ ‫‪30‬‬

Verse & Translation 2V4e-r2se6 ٢٤‫َي ُقو ُل يَ ٰـلَ ۡيتَنِى َق َّد ۡم ُت ِلحَ َيات ِى‬ He will cry, “If only I had sent ahead some good deeds for this life to come.” ٢٥‫أَ َح ٌد‬ ‫َع َذابَ ُه ٓۥ‬ ‫ُي َع ِّذ ُب‬ َّ ‫َف َي ۡو َمئِ ٍذ‬ ‫ل‬ On that Day, He will punish severely, like no other. ٢٦‫َول َا يُوثِ ُق َوثَا َق ُه ٓۥ أَ َح ٌد‬ And bind tightly, like no other. Let's Read Together And when all of the horrible scenes are shown, permanent regret will creep in their hearts. Because they know what horrible punishments await them. 31
