Quills'n'Stills ARGENTINA : CAMPEONES DE MUNDE This World Cup was spectacular. The showpiece final might have been the greatest of all of them. A stunning football drama that made it all the way, occasionally .. wobbling towards France and occasionally toward Argentina, and Messi the maestro. . had a storybook ending, ensuring his place in football lore. The last Frenchman to.... conquer the arena was Kylian Mbappé. The Golden Boot he was holding was.. worthless. The silver medal he was wearing was just a gesture. Only one other. individual had ever accomplished what Mbappé had done, he scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final. France had never participated before being involved twice in the last ten minutes through his agency. All of that incredible splendor, though, was insufficient. Few players, living or dead, could reasonably be said to have created the magnificent right-footed volley goal that tied the game for France. Emi Martinez couldn't react in time as the ball fizzed by him. Up until that point, Lionel Messi had completely dominated for Argentina, putting on one of the best performances of his fairytale career. The full-bore battle.. between Messi and Mbappé, which the world witnessed, eradicated the critiques that... studded the early stages of the event and threatened to overwhelm the Qatari hosts ..... Previously a memorial for Messi, the event was now the greatest 59

Quills'n'Stills ........World Cup final anyone could recall, and possibly the greatest sporting tale ever ......recorded. Mbappé's ninety seconds completely changed the scenario. And it would ....continue to improve. Argentina had barely 12 minutes to defend their goal after Messi ...twice chinned France in the second overtime period. When the referee gave France a .second penalty, they had two minutes left before doing so. The thought of Harry Kane missing a second penalty kick briefly worried the minds of those watching. There was never any question about Mbappé. Martinez was defeated with ease after .four steps, the same corner, and the same result. Going from 0 to 100 mph in a split .second requires a unique type of application, upsetting both the senses and the .dynamics ..of a match. This scorched-earth ability is what distinguishes Mbappé. The ...World Cup. finally got the champion it deserved and craved in Messi. The world ......game does, however, have Messi's logical heir in Mbappé, a player of explosive, .........eye-watering dimension who is capable of the unthinkable. Thus, the ............amazing winner of the final, Messi will be remembered just as much as ...........the ..............champion Mbappé who lost. -Akshat Barua 60
